I too worked with Captain "Chuck" Rivera in the early days of my career. It was a different time and I was glad to be a part of it. Chuck was old school and he and another Captain Jack Winters "showed me the ropes". Sorry to see him go........

I also worked with Capt. Rivera at the Daly City Fire Department. He was a veteran when I was a rookie in 1972. It was good to work with Chuck, and I always appreciated the legacy the senior firefighters left to the Department. Jackie and I express our condolences to all the family at his passing.

It was my pleasure to escort my dear aunt, Helen Neumann, to your father's wonderful 90th birthday celebration in Petaluma. She so enjoyed seeing him and his family and friends for the last time. This is to let you know she died peacefully April 19th last year in Reno. I know she would be saddened to learn of your father's passing. She and my late Uncle Chuck were long-time friends of both of your parents. May they all rest in peace.
Sincerely,
Julie Wilson

I was hired with Daly City Fire on 04/17/1978. After my 8 weeks of training, I was assigned to "B" Shift at what was at that time station # 7, now called station #94. Captain Rivera was my first Captain, along with E/O George De Bono. I learned many things from two of the department's well seasoned veterans and will never forget either one of them. As a "rookie "fireman" I was treated respectfully and at times shielded from the tyranny and practical joking of others, thanks to Captain Charles (Chuck) Rivera. Many years later after my own retirement from Daly City Fire, I met Ron Rivera, Chuck's son, and now my neighbor in Angels Camp Ca.
As retired B/C John Roy stated, Chuck was a "one of a kind guy" I feel very proud to have not only known him, but to have worked with him before his retirement!
My condolences to the family.
Respectfully,
Retired Captain Michael Vanlandingham

I worked with Chuck at the Daly City Fire Dept for many years. He had a wonderful gimmick at work that he worked to perfection. The Dept's Chief at the time was Elmer Kennedy. He was strictly from the old school that believed everyone should be busy at all times.Chuck would always carry a tape measure. When the Chief came out from his office looking for someone to do some dirty job Chuck would be measuring some item or fixture looking busy like he was building or repairing something. Hell it worked. I know because i got stuck doing some of those jobs. He was one of a kind and a great guy. Condolences to the family.

I got to know Chuck through my Mom, Marrietta and Fred Matteri. He was a kind and interesting man who took the time for others. My prayers go to you and your family.

What a full life he had! His departure undoubtedly leaves sorrow in your hearts. I hope that treasured memories will contine to make him feel present in the lives of his family and that you all will be a great comfort to each other. He leaves an impressive legacy.
