Deanna READ Obituary

Passed away peacefully at her home on September 8, 2014. Deanna was the first child of Joseph and Alicia Pinto, born May 31, 1945 in La Lima, Honduras. Deanna and her family immigrated to California from Honduras in 1951. She enjoyed a happy and loving childhood with her three sisters in Santa Clara, Ca., where she graduated from Wilcox High School in 1964. Shortly after, she married her high school sweetheart Mark Schram. Together Deanna and Mark had three children, Steve, Dan, and Kelly. The family resided in Oakland, Walnut Creek and in Cazadero until the marriage ended. In 1975, Deanna made Santa Rosa, Ca. her home where she raised her three children. She joined Hewlett-Packard as a semiconductor process technician. There she met Tom Read, who would become her best friend and loving partner for the next thirty-one years. Tom and Deanna were married in 1988 and built a full life with their families and friends. Deanna was a precious person to so many people because of her warmth, generosity and graciousness. She enjoyed gardening, dancing, music, and traveling. She was adventurous and loved the outdoors, backpacking annually with her dearest friends in Desolation Wilderness. She was an outstanding cook and hostess. After retiring from Hewlett-Packard (later Agilent), she continued to develop new interests and hobbies including black and white photography and watercolor painting. Likewise, she continued to build and nurture new friendships. Perhaps more than anything, Deanna cherished her role as Grandma D. She adored her grandchildren and spent time getting to know each of them as individuals. In 2008, Deanna was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer and underwent two surgeries. She had a recurrence in 2011 and underwent additional surgery followed by radiation and chemotherapy. In early 2014 it was clear the disease was progressing rapidly. She continued treatment in an effort to slow the disease, which ultimately lead to her death. Deanna is survived by her mother Alicia, her sisters Mary, Rebecca, and Maricza, her husband Tom, two sons Steve and Dan, daughter Kelly, step-children Hilary and O'Shea, daughters-in-law Kristine, Amoura, and Rebecca, her grandchildren Evan, Aidan, Marcos, Eleanna, Benjamin, Charlie, Kallean, Berit, and Victoria, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service is scheduled at Pleasant Hills Memorial Park in Sebastopol for Saturday, September 20 at 11 a.m.. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society (https://donate.cancer.org/) or North County Hospice (http://www.sonomacountyhospice.org)
