Dennis Caven
May 24, 1941 - Jul 28, 2025
Dennis Leroy Caven, 84, of Santa Rosa, California, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Born in Santa Rosa on May 24, 1941, to Vernon and Frances Caven, Dennis was a lifelong resident who took pride in his community and the life he built there. A graduate of Santa Rosa High School, Class of 1959, Dennis began working as a floor installer shortly after graduation, and continued in the trade until his retirement, dedicating his career to flooring companies Baldwins and Conklin Brothers as a proud member of Carpenters Union Local 751. Known for his deep knowledge of the flooring industry, Dennis earned the respect of his colleagues and customers alike, was always generous with his time, and happy to lend a hand to most anyone. If you needed a tool for a project, most likely Dennis had it.
In high school, Dennis was active in sports, and his love of athletics continued into adulthood as he played in local leagues and volunteered his time to support his children's activities. A man of few words at times, Dennis filled his life with many passions. An avid outdoorsman, Dennis loved fishing and hunting, earned his pilot's license, and later became an acclaimed marksman, competing in black powder rifle shooting competitions. If you were a friend of Dennis, you were a friend for life, as he had several close friends from as far back as middle school.
Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Ida Garretson; his daughter, Denyse Caven; his sons, Craig Caven and Todd Caven; and his seven cherished grandchildren, Andrea Caven, Ryan Caven, Dante Mazzanti, Luca Mazzanti, Rico Mazzanti, Ben Caven, and Kate Caven. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Frances Caven, and his brothers, Vern Caven and Donald Caven.
Dennis will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his dedication to his craft, and the generosity he shared with all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were lucky enough to be in his orbit. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the memories he created.
