Donald Peter "Pops" Ransom obituary

Donald Ransom Obituary

Passed away on Sunday afternoon March 4, 2012, at his home in Petaluma, CA. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends at the time of his death. Petey, as he was called by his parents, Ralph and Cora Ransom, and his siblings Louise, Ralph, Ed, Pat, and Barbara, was born May 27, 1934 in Ann Arbor, MI, where he lived until joining the US Navy at 17. He remained in California after serving his country for four years. Pops lived in San Francisco for many years with his first wife Helen and their five children, working for Davis and Meyer Tire Company, then in trucking. He moved to Petaluma in 1968, where he owned a gas station, sold insurance, then got into the carpet business, where he worked for many years as Sales Manager of Craftsman Floor Covering until his retirement in 2008. Pops remarried in 1979 to his second wife, Leslie, and had two children. He had many hobbies that he loved doing with his friends including bowling, fishing, golfing, and playing cards at the 101 Casino, with occasional trips to Boomtown and Las Vegas. He loved many sports, including basketball and football, but his great love was his San Francisco Giants (whose games he watched avidly with his wife Leslie) who thankfully won a San Francisco World Series title before his passing. His favorite television shows were westerns and game shows, which he watched every morning with his daughter Stephanie during his illness. Everyone who knew Pops loved him dearly. He worked hard throughout his lifetime to take care of his family. He will always be remembered for his generous nature and his amazing sense of humor. Not a day passed when Pops didn't make someone laugh. We love you Pops and will miss you every day. Pops is survived by his wife Leslie, first wife Helen, brother Ed Ransom, children Don Ransom, Jr., Debbie Chadwick, Rob Ransom, Edie Ransom, Toni Cancilla, Lane Ransom, and Stephanie Ransom, and also 11 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many other family members and friends. Donations may be made to Hospice in Donald Ransom's name.
