Elaine Rogers Obituary

ROGERS, Elaine K. "Peanuts" - 82, entered into rest September 18, 2006 at her home in Loon Lake, WA. Elaine was born at the family home at W2110 Mission in Spokane on September 1, 1924. As the only child of Stanley and Leta Newton, she spent many hours during her childhood playing at Cannon Park and developed a love for sports. She attended Holms, Havermale, and North Central graduating in 1943. She graduated from EWU in 1955 with a degree in Education, starting her teaching career at Mead High School where she taught U.S. History, Physical Ed and coached the boys' tennis team. Elaine continued to teach and coach eventually becoming a school counselor in CA. She spent the last 24 years of her career at Petaluma Jr. High, retiring in 1985. In 1990 she moved to Loon Lake, WA where she resided until her death. Elaine was a past member of the Spokane Figure Skating Club and a current member of the Sons of Norway and the Loon Lake Moose Lodge. She was preceded in death by one daughter. Surviving are a close friend, Betty Miles, at the home and cousins Penny Melcher and Judy Lozo both of Spokane, Jan McGill of Cambria, CA and Sylvia Christopher of Colville, WA. A Memorial Service will be held October 21, 2006 at the West Central Community Center, N 1603 Belt in Spokane. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Central Community Center or to NE Washington Health Programs, PO Box 808, Chewelah, WA 99109-0808.
