Elsie Sterett Obituary
September 9, 1932 - June 15, 2024
Elsie Antonia Sterett passed away peacefully at home in Windsor, California on June 15, 2024. Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Canada, she was one of nine children. She fell in love with California while living with her sister Sophie's family in San Diego as a young woman. She moved to San Francisco and she lived the rest of her life in California. She met Bill Sterett in San Francisco. After living in Southern California, they moved to Sonoma County in 1976. They lived there ever since. They were married for more than fifty years, until Bill passed away in 2015. She missed him every day.
Elsie's mind remained nimble and bright, kept sharp by playing card games with her friends and family (and winning), playing golf, reading novels, and doing word puzzles. In recent years, she loved sharing Wordle and Spelling Bee with friends and family. She was proud of working for many years for the Mark West Union School District. After her retirement, she and her husband Bill continued to enjoy golf, card games, and seeing friends and family. She rooted for the Warriors and 49ers, endlessly.
Over the last five years, Elsie and her family have been grateful for the tireless care and companionship of Vosawale Siga Misiwata. Siga has been Elsie's angel. Elsie has loved playing cards and tile rummy with Siga and with her good friends.
Elsie's parents Harry and Anne and siblings Nellie, Frances, Bertha, Fred, Mildred, Rose, and Sophie passed away before her.
Elsie is survived by her children Susan, Bill (Barbara Gardner) and Jeff (Kristin). Her son Peter died in 1993. She was grandmother to Stefan (Kaitlin Mohr), William, Maya, Matthew (Sarah Ivie), and Sophia. She loved her children and grandchildren with a fierce concern. We miss her. We are glad she is at peace.
Her family welcomes donations in her honor to World Central Kitchen. She was grateful for the support they have offered the firefighters in Sonoma County. Donations to the Redwood Empire Food Bank are also welcome. The family requests no flowers.

I just saw the obituary for Elsie Sterett, an aunt I have not had contact with for many years. Our deepest condolences go out to her immediate family. She lived a very productive life, raising very successful children. My last memory of her was in a car, driving to Melville SK for her to get on to a train for Vancouver where she went to live with her sister Sophie and her husband Norman.
While we have not maintained close contact, she will always be family.

We knew Elsie and Bill for years back in the late 70's and 80's, while I worked at the infamous Cricklewood Restaurant. They were warm and wonderful patrons, and their amazing son, Peter, was also working at the restaurant. It was tragic when Peter departed this world, and we all missed him terribly! A beautiful family and I'm so sorry to hear about their Matriarch, Elsie's passing.....bless you all!!!

So sorry to hear but Elsie is in a better place. A strong, compassionate, lovely woman I met years ago thru son Bill. Knowing how much Bill loved his mother speaks volumes about the wonderful woman she was. Rest In Peace dear Elsie.
