Ernest John (Albert) Grob
October 11, 1927 - March 15, 2024
The son of Swiss immigrants Joseph and Mary Grob, Ernest John (Albert) Grob was born in Weed, California. Ernie liked to say he was "born among the weeds." In 1940, the family moved to Petaluma where they lived and worked on a dairy farm. Ernie graduated from Petaluma High School. He was drafted into the Army and sent to Germany as part of the Allied Occupation. There he met his wife, Ingrid. They settled in Santa Rosa and had three daughters. Ernie began a career in the car business, working for local dealerships and eventually becoming a proud co-owner of Santa Rosa Nissan, "On the original automobile row."
After Ingrid's passing, Ernie was introduced to Dorothy Beglin, a widow with seven mostly grown children. They fell in love and were married in August 1984. They lived many happy years together enjoying each other, their grandchildren and spending family holidays and celebrations both in their Santa Rosa home and at the beach house on Tamales Bay. Most of Ernie's retirement years were spent outside in his yard, swimming in his pool and taking daily "rest periods." Ernie will forever be remembered for his kindness to everyone.
Ernie is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and daughters, Susan Grob and Michelle Grob Van Dyke. He is survived by his wife, Dottie; daughter, Stephanie Grob Phillips; stepchildren, Briane, Phil, Tim, Jim, Erin, Shannon, Dennis, and their spouses; 27 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and daughters, Garland Koho and Marion Sutton from earlier marriages. Ernie was deeply loved by us all and we will miss him greatly. A private family celebration will be held at a later date.
