Florence BARIL Obituary

BARIL, Florence Dalbec 1922 - 2017 On November 2nd 2017, Florence passed away after 95 years of a most remarkable life. She is survived by her sister Helen Demers, six children (Jeffrey, Richard, Elise, Annette, Roger and Roland) ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was born and raised in Worcester MA, the daughter of French Canadian immigrants, where she attended Catholic schools, and later the Boston Conservatory of music as a Pianist. At 19 she married Maurice Baril and left behind her parochial childhood, embracing life as the wife of an Army officer in Counter-Intelligence. She traveled overseas to post-war Europe and back to America, moving at least once a year for nearly 20 years with an ever-growing family in tow before settling in Santa Rosa in 1960. She immediately joined the Causerie Francais, where she met her dearest friend Adrienne Nassan. She also was a long-standing member of the Organic Gardening Club (President for many years) and the Santa Rosa Community Concert series as well. Florence had a life-long love of music and was an accomplished pianist and singer. Her children were all given the gift of music, through lessons and singing around the piano at every holiday and celebration. We all share memories of her singing as she cooked and cleaned and gardened. She was a woman of considerable etiquette, respect, formality, and orderliness who also embraced the free-spirited, nature-loving, swimming in ice-cold-streams passions that her husband and children so loved. She was fiercely devoted to her family through all the generations. Her joie de vivre was contagious and her greatest gift to all who knew her.

I have sweet memories of Aunt Florence putting on a huge, delicious family dinner when my mom and I came to visit the Baril clan in 1989. My love and sympathy to all.

I have such fond memories of my Aunt Florence. Truly her love of music and art, dance and theater was a gift to her family, friends, and wider community. She was so far ahead of the organic gardening and healty eating curve, and her joie de vivre was heart-warming, her passion, independence and tenacity inspiring. She was deeply loved, and I will fondly carry memories of Florence in my heart.

I met you, Dear "Aunt Flo", but knew you not. But you are always invited to my Tennessee home for any or no reason .
Ditto your family.

What a beautiful tribute to an amazing woman. One of the things I have always admired about my wonderful Aunt Florence is that she managed somehow to slip the noose that religion can often be. Her free spirit, unwillingness to bend to life's hardships, and an undying optimism were qualities that made her shine like a light for so many people! And she will continue to live on in the lives of those she loved so dearly.

Dearest Baril Family-So sorry to hear about the loss of sweet Florence. .Your Mom was one of the kindest and most talented people I've ever known. She always had something nice to say. I will always remember when we all gathered around the piano and sang songs. She had such a beautiful voice and such a talent for playing the piano. Florence loved playing Scrabble with Mom and enjoying each other's company. They were the best of friends. I loved your Mom. She is singing with the angels in heaven. May she Rest In Peace.
