Frank ANDERSON Obituary

Passed away peacefully in Yountville on April 7, 2012. He was born near Baker, Idaho on October 26, 1914. He was one of six children of Emmet and Alice Anderson. As a teen, he moved to Calistoga and attended high school there. After completing high school in 1932, he left California and worked a variety of jobs. By the mid 30's, he ended up working the mines in Butte, MT and married Katherine Stefonic on New Year's Day 1939. They started a family and then moved back to California where he worked in mines and on ranches. They settled in Napa, and he at Basalt and then at the shipyard at Mare Island. He joined the Navy in 1944, serving as a Gunner's Mate First Class on a troop transport ship in the North Atlantic. After leaving the Navy, he returned to Napa. He bought a chicken ranch in Sonoma Valley and began the "Anderson Poultry Ranch". The business grew until health issues forced him out of the business in the mid 60's. In the following years, he lived and worked at a variety of locations and jobs in Sonoma County. Ultimately, he retired to the Yountville Veteran's Home in 2000. Frank was preceded in death by his brothers Russell and Harvey, sisters Louise White) and Dorothy Stephenson, wife Katherine and son Glenn. He is survived by his brother Ray, sons Bob and Leroy Anderson, daughters-in-laws Sue and Judy, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The family wishes to recognize and thank the wonderful staff at the Veteran's Home of Yountville, especially the memory care ward. We also wish to thank the staff from Napa Valley Hospice for their comforting assistance during his last days. The family would also like to encourage everyone to take time and visit a veteran at the Veteran's Home and to thank them for their service to this country. At his request, no formal services will be haled. Private inurnment will be held at sea at a later date.
