Gloria Louise Given, a beloved mother, wife, and friend, passed away in Sebastopol, California, on March 11 at the age of 86. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, optimism, warmth, and quiet strength that touched the lives of all who knew her.
For 35 years she dedicated herself to her work as a legal secretary, known for her keen attention to detail and unwavering professionalism. She took pride in growing up in the country in Scoggins Valley (Oregon), where hard-work on the farm was a lifestyle. She enjoyed playing the piano, knitting, and collecting opal jewelry. After retiring, she found joy in life's simple pleasures-traveling by RV, going for walks with her dog, Alfie, and collecting tea pots and spoons. Additionally, she had an undeniable talent in the kitchen, where she lovingly prepared meals for family and friends. She was an avid reader, a devoted gardener who found peace among her flowers, and a beloved volunteer at the local hospice store, where she cheerfully worked as a cashier. She attended church at the Sebastopol Community Church, where she was frequently in charge of coffee.
Her kindness, cheerful and upbeat nature will be dearly missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Anthony Given; daughter, Suzan Elizabeth Given, step-daughters, Kathryn Dawn (Ralph) Simantel and Kari (Michael) Geoghagen; brother, Ronald (Linda) Jackson, sister Rosemary Petersen; along with many other family members and friends.
In addition to her mother Verna and her father Michael, Gloria was preceded in death by her brother, Gerald Jackson.
A service to honor her life will be held at the Sebastopol Community Church on April 12 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to By the Bay Health Hospice, Sutter Hospice Thrift Stores, or the United Church of Christ, Sebastopol Community Church in her memory.
