Jim was born in Detroit, Michigan to Phyllis and John Cyb. He grew up in Santa Rosa and graduated from Montgomery High School in 1964 before serving four years on a submarine in the U.S. Navy. My husband, John and I had the privilege of being Jim and CeCe's neighbors for about 17 years. We got to see his family grow with the addition of his 2 wonderful sons, John and Jimmy. Jim was such an amazing father to his two boys. He loved his family very much. As a neighbor, you didn't need to look very far for a helping hand; he was always happy to accommodate. My husband, John really enjoyed the classic car talk the two would share and just the friendly greeting out front of the houses whenver they ran into eachother. We felt a definite sense of loss when Jim moved away. Feeling so blessed to have known him and also jipped of many more desirable years as neighbors with more 'friend time'...spent together; a very dear person who left a big impression on us..though he may not have known with his modest ways. Always in our prayers sweet neighbor......R.I.P...

An art work collage I created for Jim - that includes one of his birds he captured spontaneously in Santa Rosa.

Jim and I were very close. We met on a team for a creative IT project in 2007 and we enjoyed many times together, walking, hiking, taking photographs and exploring our lives in reflective, honest and inspiring conversations.. We considered each other best "male / female" friends.

Jim's genuine warmth, sense of wonder, and love and reference for life was always evident. His integrity and kindness touched my heart. He was a good person to the core, there was a real innocence about him. Jim was passionate about our political challenges and the way we humans are impacting the planet. He would sometimes roar like a lion and I loved his heart felt expressions. The good, the bad and the ugly.

Jim's love of art and photography was endlessly satisfying to him. As a mature artist he created truly original works; portraits of sea birds - weaving them together in unique and exhaustive detail that took hundreds of hours to achieve. He was a perfectionist. His work had a truly unique perspectives that revealed the wonder and majesty of these creatures. His larger works were mind-blowingly beautiful panoramas.

Jim was a loyal person and loved his family and was dedicated to them. He spoke often of his sons and grandchildren and he was a wonderful support to them. His innate wisdom, reverence and openness to all of life's possibilities made him a wonderful companion and confidant. He was a man you could trust and open up to. How rare is that!

In Italian they say: "Quando trovi un vero amico, trovi un tesoro." When you find a true friend, you find a treasure.

I will miss you so much my dear friend. May you soar like the birds into the heavens. I love you.

Jim will always be remembered as a wonderful person, a great boss, and a very talented artist/photographer. He was an empathetic soul who reached out to listen if you had a special problem. Condolences to all his family. I will miss him.

...had many good times with Jim in high school...lots of fun memories.

Yes, this is the same Jim Cyb that was in my boot camp company in San Diego, 1966 (see previous comment from me). His listed hometown is Santa Rosa.

I worked for Jim for several years at HP. He was a very supportive manager for all the people that worked for him. I remember Jim as being conscientious and soft spoken. The freedom and support he gave his people helped to make it a fun place to work. Very sorry to hear of his passing my condolences go out to his family.

I'm wondering if Jim is the same man who was in my unit in Navy boot camp (company 179) from April until June, 1966, Naval Training Center, San Diego. Looking at his picture, it's hard to tell after 50+ years but it could be him. I've had no contact since boot camp but his name is not a common one. If this is you, Jim, RIP shipmate.

Jim was a great guy to work with and I learned a tremendous amount from him about putting together a promotional publication back in the old days when it was still done with waxed paper!!

I worked for Jim for several years at Hewlett Packard in his Publications Department. I will always be grateful that he hired me, at first as his secretary because I learned so much. I eventually became a Learning Product Writer which I loved. I was saddened to hear of his passing. My condolences to his family.
