Jim was known to all as a kind approachable teacher with a sincere authentic magnetic personality that cannot be overstated.I knew Jim through my father, Martin, during his time as a member of the Santa Rosa Men's Garden Club functions. My father had been a vegetable gardener for years.
When he became a member of the Santa Rosa Men's Garden Club hIs relationship with Jim influenced him to learn the love of cultivating and growing roses. Jim's skill and knowledge of horticulture rubbed off on my father and influenced him in growing dozens of varieties of beautiful roses in his back yard with what he learned from his time helping maintain Santa Rosa's public park display of rose plants.Jim was a great mentor to my father when he became a member of the Men's Garden Club and he later went on to serve as president from all he learned.
The Club members performed plant sales, an annual Sonoma County Fair display that the men's garden club created, helping maintaining the Luther Burbank garden, functions to promote their horticultural passion and Santa Rosa's history.
I believe Jim cared for his ill wife for a considerable length of time. My folks and I attended Jim's wife's funeral, which was a tough day, but Jim remained the rock of stability as the mentor he always was that day and after. What might be the most sad with losing Jim was his friendly charismatic teaching ability. He made you feel like you could do things as well as he did.

As I'm helping get a new FFA chapter going for my son my thoughts go to Mr. King. Forever I will be grateful that he cared about all of his students enough to ask life questions.

The garden club world lost a source of knowledge generously shared with everyone in the passing of Jim King. We shall miss him!

Mr. King was my father's ag teacher in 1950 at SRHS and my ag teacher at Piner in 1978. He was a good teacher with a firm grasp on how to handle kids. I liked him a lot.

I remember Jim from Elsie Allen FFA (my daughter as FFA Sentinel) and from Santa Rosa First United Methodist Church. Jim was one of the best. Sherry Bradford
