JoAnn Triebel passed away in Santa Rosa on April 1, 2025 of natural causes. JoAnn was born on January 7, 1937, in Santa Rosa, the first of two daughters born to Fred and Betty Buss. She graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1954, part of the second of three generations of her family to proudly graduate from SRHS. As a teen she had the opportunity to travel by ship to Europe with her great aunt and uncle to attend Queen Elizabeth's coronation in June 1953. She took classes at SRJC, worked for PacBell for two years then for a dentist before getting married.
JoAnn met her future husband Robert "Bob" Triebel in 1954. They were married in December 1959, had three children, and lived in Rincon Valley in Santa Rosa since 1966. JoAnn was a special ed teacher's aide for 15 years at Sequoia Elementary School, which she enjoyed very much. She volunteered at the Sonoma County Fair Tea Room and at Luther Burbank's home in the gift shop. Her last and most favorite volunteer job was at Spring Lake Regional Park as a landscape worker doing pruning, watering, weeding, picking up trash and any other jobs needed. JoAnn had a green thumb and maintained the beautiful yard of her own home for 59 years.
JoAnn was an animal lover, especially of cats and cats seemed to know that she was a "Cat Lady". Any stray or abandoned cat in her area would find a path to her door knowing they'd be well fed and cared for. In her later years she enjoyed cruising, especially to Alaska and she loved being a Grandma to her four granddaughters. She will be dearly missed by her sister Janet Buss Root and her best friend since third grade, Irene Keith.
JoAnn was predeceased by her husband Bob in 2017. She is survived by her sister Janet Buss Root; children Ann Triebel (Jon Greene), Amy Rivera, and Bob Triebel, Jr. (Emily Emmerson); nieces Jill Root and Jennifer Donovan; granddaughters who felt she was the BEST Grandma: Megan and Jordan Triebel, Julia and Olivia Rivera.
