John Bacon Obituary

BACON, John F., M.D. Born February 19, 1914 in Cando, ND. Died peacefully January 12, 2006 in Santa Rosa, CA. He graduated from the University of North Dakota, received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania, followed by a fellowship in radiology at the Mayo Clinic. He joined the McFarland Clinic in Ames, IA in 1949 and, except for a sabbatical in 1962-1963 at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, he practiced in Ames until his retirement in 1979, when he and his wife Jane moved to Oakmont in Santa Rosa. He was active in local and national medical societies, serving as president of the Rocky Mountain Radiological Society and on the Board of Chancellors of the American College of Radiology, serving as vice president in 1979. He is survived by his wife Jane; daughters and sons-in-law Elizabeth and David Strain, Mary and Peter Wise, and Barbara and Jeffrey Heil; son Bill, and son and daughter-in-law John and Maureen Bacon; grandchildren Beth (Jerry) Mitchell, Catherine Wise, Michael and Stephen Strain, Daniel and Nicole Bacon, and Olivia and Jonathan Heil; and great granddaughters Lisa and Sarah Mitchell. He was predeceased by his sister Elizabeth Jane Bacon. Friends and family are invited to attend the Memorial Mass, Saturday, January 21, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Star of the Valley Catholic Church, 545 White Oak Dr., Santa Rosa. Arrangements under the direction of LAFFERTY & SMITH COLONIAL CHAPEL, 4321 Sonoma Hwy., Santa Rosa (707) 539-2921.
