John Cramer Obituary

John Cramer
July 16, 2025
John Cramer, formerly Vice President and General Counsel of Easton Sports and a trustee of the Easton Foundations, passed away July 16, 2025, after an extended illness with Alzheimer's. He was 85. His wife Jane, and son Tom were with him when he passed.
John was born in 1939 in Los Angeles, where he grew up. He was the son of Charles and Capitola Cramer and had two sisters, Felicia and Mary. John attended high school at the Principia Upper School, a co-ed boarding school in St. Louis. He went on to attend Stanford University, graduating in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science, Cum Laude.
While at Stanford, John met and married Jean Goertz Gray. They had three sons, Michael, Peter, and Tom. Jean graduated from Stanford with a degree in architecture. After they got married, John was on active duty in the Navy for 6 months. He went on to Law School, graduating from the University of California, Bolt Hall with a Juris Doctor in 1965, and passed the California Bar in 1966.
His marriage to Jean ended in divorce in 1975. He met Christine Ann Montgomery, a linguistics specialist with a PhD from UCLA, who had her own linguistic company, Language Systems, Inc. Their marriage lasted three years. Subsequently, John married Jane Hollingsworth Cramer in 1988.
John started his legal career at Overton, Lyman and Prince, a law firm in downtown Los Angeles that was initially formed in 1877. He later joined Easton Sports as Vice President and General Counsel, reporting directly to its CEO, James Easton. John also became a trustee of the Easton Foundations that had been created to promote sports, especially archery, among American youth. He also became a member of the Los Angeles Country Club, where he played golf.
Easton Sports was a natural fit for John. He enjoyed sports and pursued golf, archery, surfing, shooting, sailing, water skiing and snow skiing. He and Jane purchased a home in Mammoth Lakes that became a family affair with skiing trips as often as possible. They moved to Guerneville in Northern California, where Jane and John were active in the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in Santa Rosa. John was on the vestry and head usher for several years while Jane joined the choir, attended to the flowers, and altar guild ministries.
John is survived by his wife Jane, his two sisters, three sons, three stepchildren, and 15 grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for September 12, 2025, at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation at 11:00 am, at 550 Mendocino Avenue, Santa Rosa, CA 95401.

John was a fine man. His priorities, were his three boys, and his wife. There would not have been an order. It was sad to witness the decline into Alzheimer´s. He fought it and lost. He was terrific with my sister. My wife and I loved him like a brother. God Bless him.

Many fond memories of Jack. We golfed together, talked about politics and current events and legal matters of common interest. We served together on the Incarnation vestry and the St. Andrew´s food pantry board. Jack was a dear friend who long suffered from Alzheimers. I cherish our friendship, and I miss him.
