John LeBARON Obituary

Photographer and teacher John LeBaron was a fourth-generation Sonoma County resident,who grew up in Valley Ford, hiking the coastal hills and valleys which would later become subjects of his work. A graduate of Tomales High School, Santa Rosa Junior College and, in later life, Sonoma State University, John spent 20 years as a photojournalist and more than 30 years as photography instructor at SRJC. His work has been shown in galleries and exhibits throughout Northern California. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Gaye LeBaron,Santa Rosa; his daughter Suzanne LeBaron, Oakland; his son Anthony LeBaron, Santa Rosa, and his grandson, Trenton LeBaron Potter, Oakland. John was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, served in the California National Guard for 12 years and was a member of the National Press Photographers Association, the Sonoma County Press Club and Empire Runners. Friends are invited to a celebration of John's life on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in the Lawrence Bertolini Student Center on the Santa Rosa Junior College campus. A reception will follow. The Art Department and photography instructor Renata Breth invite you to a small exhibition of John's work at the Robert F. Agrella Gallery at the Frank P. Doyle Library which will be open from 2 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. April 6. To honor John, contributions may be made to a scholarship fund for art students established with the Santa Rosa Junior College Foundation, 1501 Mendocino Avenue, Santa Rosa, CA 95401, or to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 522 MS#3R02, Santa Rosa, CA 95402-9964.
