John MCCARTHY Obituary

MCCARTHY, John T. August 24, 1922 - February 26, 2015 Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, John passed away after a long illness, in Santa Rosa. He will be forever missed by his wife of sixty-six years, Elizabeth; his children, John (Joan) McCarthy of LaCanada-Flintridge, Diane (Mike) Carey of Sebastopol, Deborah McCarthy of Santa Rosa, Jan Boal of Overland Park, KS, twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Preceded in death by daughter Mary McCarthy. A Cal grad, John served in the U.S. Army-World War II, then managed several Del Monte plants in Northern California, Hawaii, South Africa, then took over Del Monte's Europe, Africa and Middle East operations, working out of San Francisco and London. He was involved in local community governments in Honolulu (receiving a state commendation), Yuba City (1966 'Man of the Year"), Marysville Rotary and served as Sutter County Grand Jury Foreman. An avid Giants fan, John was honored for his World War II Service and handed "Ball Dude" duties by the Giants for one game (in 2002, the last Friday of the season when San Francisco edged the Dodger's for the National League Playoff Berth). Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Star of the Valley Catholic Church, 545 White Oak Drive, Santa Rosa (Oakmont), CA, 95409.. A reception will follow. Private interment; Calvary Catholic Cemetery; St. James Lawn, 2930 Bennett Valley Road, Santa Rosa, CA, 95404.
