John MCENTEE Obituary

MCENTEE, John Thomas June 7, 1934 - January 15, 2016 With unwavering courage and a positive attitude, John McEntee peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Oakland, CA to James and Mary McEntee and was one of eight children. After high school, he served four years in the Air Force and was a proud Veteran. When John returned from the service he met the love of his life, Barbara on a blind date, they were married for 58 years. They lived in Oakland and moved to Petaluma in 1966 to raise their growing family. John leaves behind four children, Bob, Karen (Dave Einers), Marianne (Victor) Waterman, Susan (Mark) Benton; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. John attended night school at Oakland City College earning an AA Degree. In 1989, after 37 years, John retired from the Chevron Refinery in Richmond. He was active in many sports including softball, tennis, horseshoes and bowling. Upon retirement, golf became his favorite sport and he was a Marshall at Rooster Run for many years. John was a member of many organizations, Knights of Columbus, YMI, Elks, SIRS and volunteered often in the community. Above all, John was a gentleman, a master storyteller, loyal to his family and friends, and respected by all who knew him. He never met a stranger. John considered his greatest accomplishment to be his family. A special thanks to all of his doctors over the years, in particular the loving care that Hospice provided the last year. A Memorial Mass is scheduled Friday, January 29, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Petaluma. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of Petaluma.

John was my neighbor down the street in Petaluma when I was growing up, and I have fond memories of visiting him and his lovely wife, while playing with their irish setter, Rudy. Many hugs to you Barbara. He was a great man and was a great friend to my dad. Condolences and hugs to the family.

Marianne and family... my father, Jim Ricci, was deeply saddened to hear of your father's passing. He has many fond and fun memories and considered him a good friend. They spent many days on the golf course together and good times with the SIRS group. We hope that your memories will comfort you during this difficult time. Carlene and Tom Dolcini and Jim Ricci

I never met John, but if Sue was any reflection of her father, he was a kind, caring man that all would be fortunate to know and have as a friend.
