John NUNES Obituary

NUNES, John On May 31, 2015, John Nunes died suddenly of a heart attack. John was born May 10, 1959, in Eureka CA, and moved to Santa Rosa at age 5. He graduated from Montgomery HS and attended CCSF and Laney CC. His business career was spent as a media sales/marketing executive. John was passionate about sports and music - he rooted tirelessly for the Minnesota Vikings and New York Knicks and loved blues, soul, rock and jazz as a listener, player and composer. He made friends easily and cherished his ever-growing circle throughout his life. John began playing guitar as a teenager, and, in recent years, made a name for Bay Area tribute bands Who Too and Mods and Rockers. He just released a CD of original jazz/funk tunes, Hipnotic, by his band of the same name. John will be remembered for his warm heart, big personality and the ferocity with which he lived his life. He is survived by his wife, Joan, and dog, Ruben. There will be a public tribute in memory of John at Jupiter, Berkeley on July 29th at 8:00 p.m. with Hipnotic and other musician friends.

John and I played many gigs together in his band,"The Midnight Movers". We used to pack them in at Harry's on Fillmore. I remember one gig on a cold night when the windows were completely steamed over and the whole place was going nuts. Good times. RIP

A wonderfully gifted guitar player. John, I wish we could have put that band together that we always talked about. Rest in peace my friend.

RIP John. It's been years since we traded guitar riffs as kids. Glad to see you never stopped playing. Me either. See you soon. Signed, your guitar mates.
