Joseph Lopes Obituary

Joseph "Joey" Lopes, Sr.
Joseph "Joey" Lopes, Sr., of Rohnert Park, California, entered into rest on June 5, 2020, at the age of 43. Taken from us too soon was a son, husband, father, loyal and loved friend of many. Joey had a big heart and opened it to all who were in his life. He always remembered the special days of everyone close to him and was sure to reach out to them in celebration (oftentimes reminding those people of the significant date). His big smile, memorable laugh, and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. Joey is survived by his mother, Machelle Woodard Grover, and step-father, Gary Grover; wife, Michelle Barbante; three sons, Joseph, Javanté, and Jaeden; two daughters, Téa and Graciana; loving aunt and cousin, Denise and Paolo Woodard; uncles, Leo, Clifford and Sidney Woodard. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Dorothy Gray-Woodard and Walter Hill who are surely welcoming him into heaven with open, loving arms.
Celebration of life to be announced.

Rest in peace Joey! I struggle to wrap my mind around this devastation. I will never forget the day that you popped up at my doorstep and gave me the biggest smile. We were always there for eachother when we needed each other the most. You are very deeply missed and will never be forgotten. You will forever be my family.

I remember the last time you asked me to write a character reference letter so you can get back into river rock ....lol....but I can't believe I am writing my thoughts on your obituary...it took me a minute to even fathom the idea of doing this and finally today I decided I wanted to write and say how much of a void all of your loved ones and friends feel with you being gone ...I know we had our ups and downs...I also always knew no matter what you would look past any turbulence and come through for me in my time of need...I remember not having anywhere to go with Prada and you didn't even hesitate you just said "let's go"...now you're gone ....Rest in Paradise my dear friend...you better be at them gates when it's time to meet again...love you "Joseph" Joey Lopes....till we meet again...

I still haven’t been able to process this. I’m still expecting you to pop up with a new whip like “what’s good Jack?” Growing up with you has had an impact on my life. Glad that our boys get to grow up as best friends like we were taught. I’ll keep an eye open for your babies. I love u dear friend

Circle drive 2003, Is when I met Cookie who introduced me to Joey. The whole time I was thinking about how scary this dude was. But Over time we became good friends. The one thing I remember about him is enthusiastic about computers. He was always calling to come over and fix his computer that I started to teach him. The last time I saw Joey was around 2013, just after my breast surgery. He wanted to make I was ok. May God hold you and keep you safe. Love always , Ginny

Rest in heavenly peace Joseph. I remember you as a child (smiling), but you grew up and created a life of your own and even though I had not seen all the wonderous things you have done since childhood, I pray for you and your family now at this time. God Bless.

I met Joey around 5 or 6 years ago. This pass year he became like family. When he would stop by, hed come bouncing in with this big smile, ask how things were going and if I needed anything. Sometimes hed say I have a surprise I brought something for you. Ill truly miss he contagious smile, great sense of humor and our many long conversations about life and family. He was so proud of his five children and always said how they made him a better person.
My deepest heartfelt condolences go out to family, friends and especially his children at this very challenging time. Words cannot express my sadness. Saying goodbye to someone we all love is heartbreaking. May you find comfort with the Lord and all the special memories we all have shared with Joey.

Joey, you went to heaven too soon, leaving behind you only tears and pain. My heart hurts so much knowing you wont be coming through the front door with that big smile of yours. You will be greatly missed but your warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit will be remembered forever. You will always have a special place in my heart. Until we meet again RIP

Joey... my heart hurts so much since the moment I heard you had passed. You were my strength at times with our loss of Danica. You gave Danica so much happiness before she passed and that alone showed me your genuine love for her and me. I will never forget your surprise visits which we looked forward to! Your positive advise and support in my hardest times and darkest days. I will miss that so much and most of all I will miss your laugh and playfulness . The only that helps me at this time when I think of you along with Danica is you are with her somewhere over the rainbow and she needed you with her or you needed her! I know you both are together in a happy place with out pain & sadness. You have and will always hold a special place in my heart! My love, strength and prayers are with your family and all your loved ones but especially your children. I love you to the moon and back always and forever Shorty thank you for loving me and Danica like you did.

I knew Joey as a youth, but we didnt have much contact when he reached adulthood. When our paths did cross, I asked about his family, life and offered words of encouragement. I feel bad for his children, because they no longer have their father. I ask the Lord to surround his family, embrace them and strengthen them.
