FARIAS Joyce Ann 62 years old, joined Heavenly Father on January 11, 2017. She was a vibrant light in all of our lives, an example of determination, loyalty, generosity, love, thoughtfulness, compassion and so much more. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, sewing, researching genealogy, traveling, reading and camping. Her bright spirit will be missed, but the lessons of her selflessness will live in us forever. She is survived by her husband, Ruben Farias and her children Ruben, Rachel, Steven, Julie and Olivia, fifteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and her siblings. She is preceded in death by her parents, Crissie and Arlis, her son Tomas and granddaughter Julie Sophia. Visitation: Tues., Jan. 17, 2017, at 3 p.m.-7 p.m. at Daniel's Chapel of the Roses, 1225 Sonoma Ave, Santa Rosa. Funeral: Wed., Jan. 18, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1725 Peterson Ln, Santa Rosa with burial to follow at Shiloh Cemetery, 7130 Windsor Rd.

My Auntie Joyce was much more than this legacy states. She fought long and hard for years to get her Cherokee ancestry documented, in a pre-internet environment that took her years, with benefits reaped by all her family. She also achieved her jurisprudence degree, no small feat when you are taking care of your 7 immediate family members, and numerous extended family. She was a mother to all she met. She excelled at bonsai trees. I will always treasure our time together.

Joyce you and your family were some of the first friends we met some 30 plus years ago when Ed and I came to live in Windsor. You and your wonderful family and mine were neighbors and our 6 children and your 6 children are still friends today. You will be missed my friend. See you again some day.

So proud of you for obtaining your Doctor of Jurisprudence degree, your sealing in the Mormon temple, your faith in both Mormonisn and Native Americanism, and for being a seamstress extraordinaire and dang fine cook, and for sharing so genenerously your knowledge and love and kindness.
