Kristine Allen Obituary

Kristine Allen
September 5, 1962 - December 8, 2022
On December 8, 2022, Kristi (Fairbank) Allen was tragically taken from us when she was attacked by a shark while snorkeling in her beloved ocean off the coast of Maui, Hawaii.
Kristi was born in Spokane, Washington, to Robert and Marion Fairbank and was the 5th child in a family of 6 children. The family moved to California when she was 2 years old and built a house in an old apple orchard in rural Sebastopol where Kristi loved roaming the hills with her brothers and sister. She learned to be strong and independent in a large loving family. Her parents were both teachers and the family enjoyed exploring, science activities, playing games, taking trips, creating art works, and making up plays which they performed for neighbors. The children picked their family's apples and sold them to local canneries to earn money to go to the Fair each year and enjoyed making apple pies, crisps, and fresh pressed apple juice.
Kristi attended Forestville Elementary, Ursuline High School, and Cal Poly, Pomona. She earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in Biomedical engineering.
She had suffered many health issues: food sensitivities, asthma, and a heart condition which she was determined to overcome. This led to lifestyle changes, including a dramatic career change. She studied yoga, breathwork, and became a licensed massage therapist and life coach. She was a bright light, a nurturing and giving healer, and true friend to many through her online and in-person workshops offered through her businesses InfiniteWe and BeFree Center in Bellingham, Washington, where she endeavored to assist clients and friends to reach their full potential in life.
Kristi loved outdoor activities: hiking in the Cascade Mountains, paddle boarding, kayaking in Bellingham Bay, and swimming in freshwater lakes and especially in the ocean. She lived with joy and a determination to squeeze as much happiness as she could from each moment. She created a safe space for others to be themselves. Kristi was known for her friendly spirit, hospitality, creativity, gardening and leadership skills. She especially loved babies and all children, so much so that she became known as "Aunt Kissy' by the family.
Kristi is survived by her husband, Blake Allen; son Andrew Squires (Tabitha); stepsons Mylo and Jesse (Tiffany) Allen; her mother Marion Fairbank; sister Kathy LeRoy (Mike); brothers Mark (Jane), Matt (Michele), John, and Tim (Seema); and grandchildren Nathan Squires, Oliver, Henry, Emmett and Elsie Allen; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family plans memorial gatherings in Bellingham, WA and Santa Rosa, CA sometime in the spring.

Dear Allen Family,

Although we have never met, my wife and I would like to send our condolences for your unimaginable loss. My daughter was on her honeymoon with her husband in Maui and was snorkeling about 200 feet away from Kristine and her husband when the Coast Guard called them in. My wife is also Kristine and my name is Alan which is beyond a crazy coincidence. We just found out that our daughter is pregnant and having a girl. We believe Kristine may have saved two lives that day, our young daughter and her baby. Our prayers are with her family at this very sad time.

Sincerely ,

Alan and Kristine Cosentino

I´m so sorry for your loss. We met Kristi and Blake at Beach 2 a few times (we just moved to Chuckanut) and often admired the garden. We were touched by Kristi´s warmth, open heart, friendliness, and clear love of the ocean. We were looking forward to getting to know the two of you better. Please let us know if we can do anything to help. Grief is not an easy journey. Sending love and support. Jennifer and Bryan
