Laurie Figone Obituary

Laurie Figone
September 26, 1958 - May 24, 2024
Laurie L. Figone, a gifted chef and cookbook author, was happiest when preparing fabulous meals for her family and the wide circle of friends she considered family. The longtime Petaluma resident, well known in the community for her culinary skills and warm, engaging personality, died May 24, 2024 at a Santa Rosa hospital. She was 65.
Her unexpected death has left family and friends stunned as they mourn the passing of a charismatic woman with a matchless zest for life.
She was born Laurie L. Leveroni on Sept. 26, 1958, the daughter of David and Joyce Leveroni of Novato. She was raised on her family's Marin County dairy ranch where her passion for good food was shaped by the land's abundance and large family gatherings. On Sundays, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins gathered for a hearty meal, engaging in lively conversation between forkfuls of homemade ravioli and fresh greens from the garden.
Laurie totally embraced the pleasures of the table and gracious hospitality, making her home and garden a welcoming venue for entertaining. In her cookbook, "Cooking with Laurie Figone," she writes, "I love to cook. It brings people together and makes my heart sing. I'll always cherish the moments spent in the kitchen with my Mom and Grandma."
Laurie's husband of 38 years Dan Figone was her most ardent fan and supporter as she pursued her love for food and entertaining. Laurie was the love of Dan's life and his best friend. They were an inseparable couple who cherished every minute together.
Laurie loved spending time at Lake Tahoe, gambling at the casinos and dining out with her husband to explore the cuisine around Petaluma and beyond. She took great pride in her home and garden and had a sense of style and fashion, always impeccably attired and beautifully groomed when she went out.
In addition to her husband Dan Figone and parents, David and Joyce Leveroni of Novato, Laurie is survived by her son, Garret Medeiros of Novato; daughter, Sabrina Figone of Cotati; her brothers David (Ann) Leveroni and Paul (Lisa) Leveroni, all of Novato; her sisters-in-law, Donna Faustino and Nancy Mazzetta, both of Petaluma, and brothers-in-law, Dave Faustino, Ken Mazzetta and Steve Figone, all of Petaluma, and by many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was a special aunt to Amy, Ashley and Stacey. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 5 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Petaluma. Laurie's family said she was deeply loved and she loved everyone.

Laurie and I met at Petaluma HS. I look back at those time with the fondest of memories. She was one of my closest friends. Many time we hung out at the ranch. Drove the jeep around. Went to lunch together when Laurie got her Camaro. She always had a smile my her face. She grew into a very talented women. She was a superb Chef; winning many contest and writing a cook book. She was extremely creative and a great friend. I enjoy watching her accomplishments with her culinary endeavors. You left us too soon my friend. My heart goes out to Dan, Garrett, Sabrina and the rest of her close family. She will truly be missed. Your friend Minel

I first meant Laurie in 7th grade, and we became best friends for several years. I have so many wonderful memories growing up with Laurie, especially at their dairy ranch. We shared many happy times together, whispering through the night about first crushes, and dreams about the future.

Laurie was an amazing and gifted person, and even though we had lost touch over the years, I will miss her forever. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to Dan, her children, and the entire Leveroni family.

Laurie, We met in 1975 and became good friends. We went on trips and had a lot of laughs. Then in 1978, you set me up on a blind date and 42 years later still grateful to you. Who knew I would become a Dairy Girl like you. As our lives got busy, we didn't see each other as often, as I would have liked to but I always thought of you as a good friend.
My condolences to Dan, Garrett, Sabrina, Joyce , Dave and Family.

Truly an angel among us, with her radiant smile and sparkling personality, Laurie gained her heavenly angel wings way too soon. From the early days of 4-H Camp and summer fairs, to seeing her star in the cooking world, Laurie was always so genuine and kind. Our love and prayers are with all of the Figone and Leveroni families. May you find comfort in the many wonderful memories you hold in your hearts. Blessings

My condolences to husband and family. Met them at the Casino when he won a jackpot and asked me to watch his machine while he went to get her to show her what he hit. They both were so excited. Very happy couple I could see even meeting them for awhile.

I am in Italy now and will miss the funeral but I wanted to say that Laurie has been my idol. I loved the way she found her passion and pursued it with such energy. I´m still looking for mine. She will be missed.
