Leonard HALVORSEN Obituary

Passed away peacefully May 24, 2012 in Redding, CA with Ruth, his loving wife of 69 years, at his side. Leonard is survived by one sister, son George and two daughters, Linda Polverari and Betty Castle, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Born in Eureka, CA on September 24, 1922 he was the youngest of two brothers and three sisters. The family moved to Santa Rosa in 1924. Leonard attended Santa Rosa High where he met Ruth in his junior year. He was a member of the Future Farmers of America. They married August 1, 1942 before Leonard went into the Coast Guard. After military service, Leonard and Ruth settled in Santa Rosa where he began his career in the building industry and became a general contractor. Leonard and Ruth moved from Santa Rosa in 2000 and made their home in Graeagle, CA where they became members of the Graeagle Community Church. In 2005 they moved to Redding CA. A family service was held May 31 in Oakdale Heights, Redding, CA where Ruth lives today.

Dear Ruth, I have such great memories of Len. As a teenager and young adult Len always took the time to share his knowledge and experience with me. I will always remember going out to put up campaign signs for all the different candidates Dad and Len would support. He was a true mentor and someone who helped me learn what honesty and integrity meant. He will always be in my heart. My prayers are with you in this dificult time.

Dear Ruth, Len was an inspiration and a beloved community member. I always enjoyed his observations and opinions. I have indelible memories of the times we were together.

Ruth and family,
We have such fond memories being your neighbors on Dutton Ave. You and Len aways had warm welcoming smiles for us. We loved hearing Len share the history of our street and city. His twinkly eyes and wry smile brightened our days often. Our condolences to you.
