Malcolm Tindall Obituary

Malcolm "Mel" Fraser Tindall
April 25, 1935 - October 20, 2025
Malcolm "Mel" Fraser Tindall passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, intelligence, and devotion. Born in Fargo, North Dakota, Mel honorably served in the U.S. Army before beginning a distinguished career as an air traffic controller in Los Angeles. In the early 1970s, he moved to Sonoma County, where he continued his career and ultimately retired in 2002 after decades of dedicated service.
Mel spent more than 50 years in Occidental, surrounded by community, conversation, and love. He was the adoring life partner of Rena Gonnella, to whom he was devoted for over half a century. A remarkable grandfather figure, Mel was known for his brilliant mind, sharp wit, and endless curiosity. A passionate Cubs fan and avid reader, he possessed a mind like a steel trap and an infallible memory. His gift for conversation and lifelong love of learning inspired everyone around him.
Predeceased by his parents, Matthew and Mildred Tindall, his sister Mary Joyce Burke, and his beloved Rena, Mel is survived by his nieces Tracey Hall, Leslie Bradley, and Kathleen Lestsantear, as well as his loving extended family: Alene Rohrer, Debbie Gonnella, and Alene's children - Mitchell Rohrer, Lisa Schweizer, and Marc Rohrer - along with their spouses, children, and grandchildren.
Services will be held at a later date.
