Mari Doxiadis Obituary

Mari Doxiadis passed away peacefully on October 31 at Sutter Santa Rosa Hospital after a sudden stroke. Born Mary Margaret Morgan on October 13, 1946, in Rochester, New York, to William and Sylvia Morgan, she was the eldest of five children.
At age 13, drawn to a life of service, Mari entered a convent to pursue a vocation as a teaching nun. After leaving the order, she completed her bachelor's degree, traveled through Europe, and lived for a time in Israel before returning to the United States. She eventually settled in Southern California, where she converted to Judaism. Mari married Apostolos Doxiadis and later earned her MSW from San Diego State University.
Mari devoted her professional life to helping others. She worked as a therapist at Jewish Family Service of Orange County and, after her divorce, relocated to Sonoma County, where she served as a child therapist at the Sonoma County Indian Health Project. She contributed her leadership and compassion to the community as a member of the Board of Directors of Senior Advocacy Services, an actively engaged participant in the California Society for Clinical Social Work, and a volunteer with numerous community organizations.
Her commitment to service was especially reflected in her deep involvement with Congregation Shomrei Torah in Santa Rosa, where she served on the Board of Directors and multiple committees. She regularly visited homebound seniors and volunteered at Elisha's Pantry-an interfaith food bank-as well as at the Sonoma County Humane Society. Mari was known for her kindness, curiosity, and unwavering dedication to the well-being of others.
A memorial service was held at Congregation Shomrei Torah. Donations in Mari's memory may be made to Elisha's Pantry or the Sonoma County Humane Society.
