Martha SEPULVEDA Obituary

>SEPULVEDA, Martha (Marti) Dorn Passed away peacefully with her husband by her side, after struggling with dementia and the beginning of Alzheimer's Disease, on November 3, 2016, just six days short of her 93rd birthday. She is preceded in death by her parents Albert and Florence Dorn, and brothers Robert (Bob) and Bill Dorn. She is survived by her loving husband, Mike Sepulveda, step-daughter Cara Kallen (Elliot), sister-in-law Marian Dorn of Salisbury, Maryland, sister-in-law Dorothy DeLope of Kelseyville, California, and several nieces and nephews. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on November 9, 1923. Her family moved to Hyattsville, Maryland, where she attended Hyattsville High School. She excelled in track and field events and won a varsity letter six times. She participated in the Maryland State Track and Field Meet and was honored by Hyattsville for giving the most outstanding individual performance in the Girls Division by winning the standing broad jump and 50-yard dash, as well as being a member of the 220-yard relay team. After high school Marti worked as a clerk and typist for the Bureau of Standards for four years. She enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1944 and became a proficient aircraft hydraulics mechanic. Upon her discharge from the Marine Corps, Marti pursued classical piano studies at the Boston Conservatory of Music. She moved to California and worked for Teachers Management and Investment Corporation of Newport Beach. She relocated to Santa Rosa in the 1980s to be near her mother. She joined the Presbyterian Church of the Roses where she became a member of the sewing and quilting group. There, she also became a member of the Simply Friends group where she met the love of her life, Mike Sepulveda. They were married on October 2, 2005. She loved knitting and classical music. She made numerous caps and scarves for a charity group called The Living Room which supports homeless women. She enjoyed traveling and exploring new places. At the age of 82, she and Mike went zip-lining in Barbados, and she loved it. A Memorial Service will be held on November 19, at 10:30 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church of the Roses in Santa Rosa. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Church of the Roses or a charity of your choice.

Sincere condolences from the members of the Women Marines Association. If the Army and the Navy ever looked on Heaven's Scenes, they will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines. (3rd stanza of the Marines Hymn). Take comfort in knowing your beloved Marine has left this life to take up her rightful place in Heaven's detachment. Please email name and address of next of kin for formal letter.
Thank you,
