CONTA, Mary Ellen October 24, 1920 - November 13, 2017 Mary Ellen Conta passed away November 13, 2017 at 97 years young. Mary lived a full life; she was born on October 24, 1920 in a Noe Valley neighborhood of San Francisco, California. Mary was the oldest survivor of five siblings born to Bridget and William Ryan, who immigrated to San Francisco in 1915 from Ireland. After graduating St. Paul's high school Mary had several adventures throughout the country with girl friends until meeting the love of her life Albert C Conta (deceased). Al and Mary raised five children Maureen, Barbara, William, KC and Mathew, beginning in San Francisco then building their own home on a hillside in Fairfax, retiring to Brooking, OR., then returning to Sebastopol to be closer to family, which now consists of their five children, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Al and Mary are now reunited. Mary was a wonderful person, always full of fun and sharp as a tack until the end. Mary was active in the Sebastopol senior community as a member of the YLI and Autumn Leaves Societies. She hosted many socials and UNO card games in her Sebastopol home as well as attending many functions at St. Sebastian's Catholic Church in Sebastopol, which is where her five children will stand for Mary Ellen on Friday November 17 2017 starting at a 11a.m. viewing at Pleasant Hills Cemetery. Mass Service is 1 p.m. at St. Sebastian's Church followed by a reception in the church hall. Mary's children, Mo, Barb, Bill, KC and Matt, welcome everyone that Mary Ellen; Mom; Aunt Mary; Grandma; Great-Grandma; family and friends that were touched by Mom during her well lived life. Many thanks for the very helpful and comforting services of Heartland Hospice who comforted Mary in her last few weeks.
