Michael Jensen Obituary

Michael Jensen
March 9, 1948 - August 27, 2024
Michael Jensen passed away on August 27, 2024, in Scottsburg, Indiana.

Michael was born to Earl and Mary Rita Jensen in Montebello, California on March 9, 1948. He was the first born of eight siblings. He graduated from St. Vincent High School in Petaluma, California, in 1966. He served in the Marine Corps for 3 years as a radar and radio specialist and honorably discharged in 1969.

In his early 20's, Michael was beset with a permanent schizophrenia affliction that made his life a challenge. He was fortunate to be cared for in group homes in Indiana and lived a secure and content life. In his later years, he enjoyed modern classical music, water color painting and unsweetened tea. He often wore colorful neckties. Michael is survived by his brothers and sisters: Stephen, Peg Abbitt, Joseph, Mary Brown, Vincent, Bernard and Philip. Joseph, was instrumental in proctoring his continuing care and the family is deeply thankful. In addition, the family is especially grateful to Jan, his long-term caregiver in Indiana. Michael was interred at Calvary Cemetery in Petaluma, California.

One memory from many: singing all the verses to Mr. Tambourine Man returning from the coast. A full chorus; Mike and Joe Jensen, Tom and Pat Griffin. We thought we were pretty cool, which we were.

Michael was a sweet guy. I lived up the street on Keokuk and have great memories of Michael. Steve and I were the same age. I believe his father was a chef(?) and mother a legal secretary for John Lounibos. My condolences and best wishes to his family.
