Peter O'FLAHERTY Obituary

O'FLAHERTY, Peter Aged 87, of Healdsburg passed away March 15 after a short illness. His parents, Patrick and Helena, emigrated from Ireland. Pete, born in San Francisco on January 5, 1927, was the youngest of three children including John and Margaret Mary (deceased). He moved with his father to Santa Rosa in 1941 where he attended Santa Rosa High School. In 1944 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving in the Pacific theater aboard the LCI 220 until 1945. After being honorably discharged, Pete completed study for a Private Pilot's license at the Santa Rosa Junior College. He married Jean Alice Graham (Dec 2, 1926 - Feb 9, 2010) on June 24, 1950. He worked briefly for PG&E before moving on to Hamilton Air Force Base where he worked as a fireman for five years. After Hamilton AFB he went to work at the Sonoma County Probation Department for 8 years. In 1964 he began his career in auto sales, including a 17 year stint at Torvick Datsun where he developed many lifelong friendships. After retiring in 2000, Pete and Jean moved to Healdsburg where they enjoyed their retirement. Pete was an avid sports fan, cheering on all sports teams from his favorite, the San Francisco 49ers, to the Cardinal Newman Cardinals. A few of his hobbies included photography and gardening but many people remember him for his love of people, never hesitating to bring joy or a cheerful greeting to all that he met. A lifelong Catholic, Pete was a member of the St. Rose parish, but also attended St. John's while living in Healdsburg. Pete spent his last six months living in Windsor at the Chancellor Place where he made many good friends and thoroughly enjoyed his time and the company of his fellow residents whom he always spoke affectionately of. Peter and Jean had nine children: Christopher (deceased), Dennis, Nora, Peggy, Catherine, Joseph (Deceased), Paul, Michael, and Patrick. He also has 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A service will be held in Madelyne's Chapel at Calvary Catholic Cemetery on March 24 at 10 a.m. and is located at 2930 Bennett Valley Road in Santa Rosa. 707-546-6290 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happens to them all. Ecclesiastes 9:11

Dear O'Flaherty Family,
We have been Blessed and Honored to have shared our lives with your most Loving, Passionate, funny, adorable,
caring, "Big Hearted", and at times stubborn Mom and Dad.:):) We spent 14 wonderful years together as neighbors and Dear Loyal Friends--We adopted each other as "Family with unconditional love for each other".
We were Blessed with the love and the courage that your parents showed us and are Blessed to see how much they loved each and every one of their "Nine" children. How they would go down "Memory Lane" and share their fondest stories of all of you. How proud they are of all of you--Yes they always talked about how proud of you all!!! No matter what mistakes you made in your lives, they still talked proudly of each and every one of you!!!
Your Parents like our own--an extended family--hey, that makes us sibblings:):) We will miss both very much. My heart will always yearn for them. Let's stay in touch. As Mom would say--"What am I going to fix for dinner" Dad, "How Do You Do??""
May Our Bless You All Always,
Love, Templeman Family-Barbie ,Terry

Pete was my Father in Law, as Jean was my Mother in Law. There were no others.
His passing led me to reflect how many wonderful aspects of my life came about because of Pete, especially my Sons, Ryan and Erich, his Grandsons. Hard to believe I met him 45 years ago when I was 15. I had so many wonderful holidays at the O'Flaherty household. Also, the many great stories Pete shared of his life. We all bought our cars and trucks from Pete! Pete, as Jean, were certainly members of the greatest generation. I will always remember him.
"When you've got a good friend, one who will stay right by your side, give them all your spare time, love and treat them right" (Robert Johnson, 1936).

Pete: My good friend and co-counsellor at the Juv. Hall in Santa Rosa. To know Pete was an honor; he kept things on a positive mode. He had
a knack in his dealings with kids at the hall. A man who liked people who in turn returned the feelings. Bye, Pete and you will be remembered. Bill Johansen,Marin County

Peter was the best grandfather on earth! My daughter (his first grandchild ) could not have asked for a better grandpa. He was in touch with her almost on a daily basis and was her rock in the midst of many trials. Thank you for that Pete , I am forever grateful !

Pete was one of the kindest people on earth. I will miss him at mass, and I am still impressed by his daily attendance at mass. I'm sure he is enjoying the space reserved for him in Heaven. He deserves it.
