Philip Anderson Obituary

ANDERSON, Philip Fredrick Born January 5, 1913 in West Haven, CT. Philip was an assoc. member of the National Academy of Music; he attended the New York Ranger School of New York State College of Forestry at Syracuse University, NY. He worked and built bowling alleys during the depression, having learned carpentry from his father. He served in the U.S. Army, European Theatre, World War II as a Private First Class with the 121st Eng. Brigade and was in the Omaha Beach Invasion. He received a Good Conduct Medal and was a radio operator and dispatcher. In 1948, he moved to California, and he was licensed as a Life Insurance and Real Estate Agent for the state of California. He attended Aviation School at the College of Marin and was a small airplane pilot. He was married to Mary Roos and lived in San Rafael. In 1981, he moved to Petaluma where he married his current spouse Elsa E. Anderson, with whom he traveled to near and far away places. He was also a musician, playing the violin and played with the community orchestra. He also was a volunteer for care facilities until his loss of sight. He lived in a Board and Care facility in Petaluma after a short hospital stay, where he passed away peacefully in his sleep. Friends and family are invited to attend the Memorial Service, Thursday, August 4, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Santa Rosa Mortuary Chapel, 1900 Franklin Ave., Santa Rosa. Reverend Tim Maloney officiating. The American Legion to present military honors. Interment at Santa Rosa Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Petaluma, 416 Payran St., Petaluma, CA 94952. Arrangements under the care of SANTA ROSA MEMORIAL PARK, MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 542-3154.
