Robert Franceschini Obituary

FRANCESCHINI, Robert A. Coach Fran Passed away in his San Anselmo home on July 7, 2002 at the age of 75, surrounded by his family. Bob was born in San Francisco on January 14, 1927. He attended the College of the Pacific, where he made the Little College All-America team in 1948 and 1949 for playing football for the Tigers. He went to teaching and coaching football at Sir Francis Drake High School in San Anselmo from 1957 to 1987. He lead the Drake Pirates to four MCAL championships (1963, 1964, 1966, 1967). He retired in 1987 from teaching and lived in Sleepy Hollow with his wife Marilyn. He is survived by his wife, sons Steve of Willits, Rick of San Francisco, Tony of Novato, and daughter Laura of Mill Valley. He is also survived by his sister Eve Scatena of Walnut Creek, and nine grandchildren. A vigil will be held at Saint Rita’s Church in Fairfax, 100 Marinda Drive on Thursday July 11 at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Rita’s on Friday, July 12 at 10:30 a.m. If desired donations in his memory may be made to The Drake Scholarship Fund for a new scholarship that is being established in his honor- The Coach Bob Franceschini Scholarship. Donations may be sent to the foundation care of Sir Francis Drake High School, 1327 Sir Francis Drake Blvd., San Anselmo 94960.
