It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert "Shawn" McCoy, who left this world on October 18, 2025, just three days before his 65th birthday, while doing what he loved most-racing. Whether it was his stock car or his dwarf car, his happy place was racing. Though his time ended far too soon, Shawn's final moments were spent in a place that brought him the greatest excitement, freedom, and joy, a racetrack.
Shawn was born on October 21, 1960, in Petaluma, CA, where he spent his childhood filled with love for his family, his animals, and started doing projects at a young age, such as building dune buggies and assembling his legendary 1948 Willey's truck.
Shawn is survived by his loving wife, Becky (Johnson) McCoy; his mother, Marye McCoy; and his sister, Marlene (Shawn) and nephew Steve Elliot (Erin). Shawn was preceded in death by his hero, best friend, and father, Bob McCoy.
Those who knew Shawn will remember his unending stories of childhood, racing, and his many various animals. He loved with a full, beautiful heart that will be forever missed. While our hearts are broken, we do find comfort in knowing he spent his final moments doing what he loved most
A celebration of Shawn's life will be held on November 22, 2025, from noon to 4:00 PM at Petaluma Speedway. Friends, family and fans are invited to gather, share stories, and honor the "Ironman" who will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
