Robert YOUNG Obituary

YOUNG, Robert (11/10/1929 - 3/27/2013) and Barbara (12/21/1929 - 3/14/2013) Devoted to each other through nearly 62 years of marriage, Robert and Barbara Young of Windsor passed away just days apart in March. Barbara Marie Allen Young was born in Berwyn, IL in 1929 and attended Morton High School. She met Robert at Iowa State University, where she was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority. A schoolteacher from 1968-1989 in the Wiseburn school district at Peter Burnett and Juan De Anza elementary schools and Richard Henry Dana Jr. High School, she was a lifetime member of the PTA and enjoyed sewing, cooking and tending her rose garden. Robert Hurlbert Young was born in Boston, MA and attended Oak Park River Forest High School in Oak Park, IL. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity at Iowa State and an aerospace engineer for Douglas Aircraft Co., later McDonnell Douglas, at the Santa Monica and Long Beach plants, from 1953-1989. Bob enjoyed playing cards, camping, model railroading and rooting for the Chicago Bears. Bob and Barbara raised their family in the Holly Glen area of Hawthorne, CA from 1954 to 1989, after which they retired to Windsor, CA. They were active in the Presbyterian churches in Inglewood, Hawthorne and Windsor, and the Presbytery of the Redwoods. They volunteered as docents at the Charles M. Schulz Museum and were lifetime members of the Burlington Route Historical Society. They were also avid bridge players and had many longtime friends in the bridge club. They also enjoyed vacations to Yosemite National Park, Coos Bay, OR and taking their whole family on a cruise in Alaska to celebrate their golden 50th anniversary. In Heaven they will be reunited with their grandson Ricky, Barbara's brother Russell and sister Virginia. They will be loved and remembered by their son Keith, his sons Corey and Colin and their mother Cathy; son Kevin, his wife Sue, son Michael and his wife Jessica; daughter Kristin Shear and her sons Steven and Matthew, and Bob's sister Loie. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Windsor Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on May 20, 2013 (what would have been their 62nd anniversary) at the church, 251 Windsor River Rd. in Windsor, followed by a reception.

Robert and Barbara, can't believe you've been gone seven years. Student events are going strong, but wish you were here to help. I know you both enjoyed volunteering.

To Kevin and Keith, Very sorry for your loss. I played little league baseball with you back in the day in Hawthorne. Was reading the press democrat and recognized your parents in the photo. Ron Simons [email protected]
