Shirley Christine Cowan passed away on August 6, 2023, at the age of 84. She had been fighting a battle with pancreatic cancer. Shirley wants to be remembered for her love of music and family.

Shirley is survived by granddaughter Missy Meyer, her husband Kornell Meyer and their daughters Kaia and Isla Meyer. Daughter Sue Godec and son-in-law Ken Godec, son Larry Cowan, by granddaughters, Sara Cowan, Bethany Tomte, Donna Dejaynes, Jessica Cowan, Katie Godec and by great-grandchildren and Savanna and Sawyer Felsch, Madelyn and Amelia Tomte and Payton Dejaynes. Shirley is preceded in death by husband Richard Cowan, sons Richard Cowan Jr, Donald Cowan and David Cowan, and sisters Glenda Seller and Judy Willett.

Shirley was born on November 4, 1938, in Dalhart, Texas to John and Agatha Seago. In 1946 she moved to California with her family and they settled in the Aptos area, eventually making their way to Daly City. She married Richard Cowan, her high school sweetheart in 1956. Over the next six years, the couple welcomed five children. When her children were old enough, she went to work, finally retiring from Sonoma State University in the accounting department. In 1976 Shirley and Richard moved to their beloved home in Sebastopol, California.

A funeral is scheduled for Friday, October 6, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Hessel Church in Sebastopol, with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Shirley's life.
