Steven R. Walker passed away May 21, 2024, after losing his valiant battle with colon cancer. Steve was born September 23, 1964, in San Diego, California to Ralph and Gladys Walker. Steve attended El Cajon Valley High School and received his bachelor's degree in economics from the University of California San Diego in 1986. The summer of 1991 Steve relocated to Santa Rosa with a group of co-workers to join the Mortgage Loan Servicing operations at North American Mortgage Company (fka IMCO). It was the move to Sonoma County that ignited Steve's love of wine and food. He took classes to learn about the various wines and developed such a refined palate he was affectionately known to his friends as the Wine Snob (his license plate "Wyn Snob" reflected his sense of humor). A self-taught chef, Steve loved creating menus, cooking, and entertaining friends and family; whether dining at the "Wyn Snob's Kitchen" or at some new restaurant Steve had discovered, you could always count on a good time and a delicious meal with outstanding wine. Steve's upbeat personality and positive outlook brought many people into his life, and he treasured those friendships dearly. Steve loved to travel, Italy being a favorite and frequent vacation destination. He also traveled to France, Spain, The Netherlands, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Mexico and Hawaii; staycations usually consisted of coastal stays and of course visiting family in San Diego and Montana. Steve acquired an African Grey parrot in 1994 when she was a hatchling and lovingly raised her for the past 30 years. Rebel was his pride and joy, she would entertain Steve and his friends with her whistles, singing, dancing, and chatter, she made sure he was never alone.
Besides Rebel, Steve is survived by various cousins, his favorite among them his cousin Jessica Lerud. They had a special bond as Steve was more like an older brother than a cousin and they shared many adventures together.
Steve will be missed by family as well as a multitude of friends; there will be a Celebration of Life August 25th. Please see Steve's Facebook page for details and to confirm attendance.
