Terri Lynn Ekren passed away on May 5, 2022 from complications of lung disease, having survived recent hospitalizations for COVID and pneumonia. She is survived by her mother Louann Ekren and her siblings Kathy Ekren, Mary Beth Wells, William Ekren, Winston David Ekren and their families. She is preceded in death by her father Winston S. Ekren, MD.
Terri was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 10, 1950, while her father was completing medical school. The family moved to Phoenix, Arizona, then Moab, Utah, then Richmond, Virginia and in 1966 to Santa Rosa, California where her father began his practice as a neurosurgeon. Terri graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1968. She was a member of the Pantherettes and was elected a homecoming princess. She enjoyed playing classical piano, clarinet and guitar. Terri became a Certified Shorthand Reporter and worked in the Bay Area. She was a San Francisco 49ers fan.
Terri was physically gifted and loved all animals, but had a special affinity for horses. She competed successfully with her horses to earn ribbons in both Western and dressage competitions as well as barrel racing and owned a thoroughbred racehorse that raced at Golden Gate Fields. She loved snow skiing in the winter and water skiing in the summer.
Terri was intellectually gifted and as a young woman voraciously read the works of Nietsche, Schopenhauer and other great philosophical thinkers. She also loved historical dramas and fiction.
Terri was devoted to her family, averse to conflict and possessed the gift of diplomacy. She could converse with everyone. Her gentleness and beautiful spirit will be missed, yet cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Graveside Services will be held for Terri at Santa Rosa Memorial Park on Friday, May 27, 2022 at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lost Hearts and Souls Horse Rescue, 616 Hunter Lane, Santa Rosa, CA 95404 (lostheartsandsouls.org).
