On October 22, 2022, Thomas Michael Wall passed away relating to his struggle with lung cancer. He was 75 years old.
Born in Antigo, Wisconsin in 1947, Tom was the oldest of six children. When he was approximately 11 years old, his mother drove a 1958 station wagon with her four children under the age of eleven to California via Route 66 to meet her husband and her children's father, who had acquired a job in the Bay Area.
After graduating from Cupertino High School, he enlisted in the military, where he served in the Air Force for four years.
In 1971, Tom was introduced to his future wife, Kassie, by his sister, Mary Wall. The two married in 1972 in Reno, Nevada. Soon followed their two children.
In 1976, Tom moved his family to Cloverdale, California, where he acquired a job as a machinist. An avid golfer, car admirer, and wood worker. He enjoyed spending his weekends watching NASCAR Winston Cup Series and golf on television. He also was a member of the local car club and Druids Temple Society of Cloverdale.
In 1978, Tom joined the Cloverdale Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter. He held this commitment in high regard. For the last portion of his time with the department he served as the city's volunteer Assistant Fire Chief. Tom made many life-long friends while with the fire department-relationships that were forged by the shared commitment and dedication to the community.
Tom started his career as a machinist. Over his 30-year career, he studied the craft and worked his way up promoting to an engineer. Most of this profession was spent working for Hewlett-Packard Company (HP) and its future acquired entities. For many years, Tom traveled to Malaysia for work assisting with special projects. He retired in 2010; however, his special skill set allowed him to continue working as a consultant for multiple years. In 2020, during COVID-19, he was employed by Cloverdale Ace Hardware where he enjoyed seeing many familiar faces from the community.
Tom and Kassie were married for 50 years. He was the proud, loving father of Michelle (Wall) Fletcher and her husband Roger Fletcher II of Cloverdale; Matthew Wall and his significant other Jenn Morton of Santa Rosa. Tom is also survived by his three grandchildren Taylor Rae Wall (20), Kyle Wall (16), and Alex Wall (13). He is also survived by his brother, William (Bill) Wall married to Terry Wall of Santa Rosa; sister-in-law Eileen Wall of San Ramon; and sister-in-law Sally Wall of Santa Rosa and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of the Life of Tom Wall will commence in the next few weeks. In lieu of flowers, one may make a donation to either the Cloverdale Volunteer Firefighter Association or an organization supporting cancer care and/or research.
