Tyrone 'Ty' DeShields, age 85, passed away peacefully in Santa Rosa on August 9, 2025. Born in Santa Cruz in 1939, Ty was the beloved son of Orrie and Maxine DeShields. His warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Ty is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley DeShields; his brother, Craig DeShields; his sister, Sue Lewis; his son, Mitch DeShields and wife, Becky; his stepson, Jack Thomas and wife, Dana; his stepdaughter, Rochelle Bowman; as well as his cherished grandchildren, grandson Tony (Courtney) Feeney; granddaughters, Jenna Feeney, Ashley Zhang (Jeff), Page DeShields, Taylor Thomas; grandson, Orrie DeShields; and great-grandsons, Jackson and Julian Feeney and Wes and Ellis Zhang. He was preceded in death by two sons, Michael and Mark DeShields, who were always in his heart.
A talented carpenter, Ty dedicated more than 40 years of his life to his craft, working across Sonoma County and the Bay Area. He took pride in every project, and his integrity and work ethic were unmatched.
Ty's passions outside of work were as vibrant as his character. He was an avid lover of the outdoors, enjoying countless hours camping, dirt biking, and fishing. The tranquility of nature was his refuge, whether it was a quiet moment by a river or a long ride through the wilderness.
Ty was a man of few words but profound wisdom. He was a loyal friend, a loving family member.
In accordance with his wishes, no formal services will be held, but those who knew and loved him are encouraged to remember him in their hearts and in the places he loved best-the forests, rivers, and trails he cherished.
