I was very sad to learn today of Curtis' passing. I was a radio DJ with Curtis when he first began coming to UCR. Teddy Bear. Sweet C. The Wizard. Mighty Mac. We had some great times back in the day. Curtis was a musical genius ... but, more importantly, he loved people. He could bring a smile to anyone's face. I haven't talked with Curtis for over 20 years. I didn't realize until today how much I missed 'Teddy Bear'. My prayers are with Curtis' family and friends...

MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO THE FAMILY AT THIS VERY SORROWFUL TIME.I CAN HOPE THAT ALL THE GREAT MEMORIES,WILL COMFORT YOU.VANESSA I KNOW YOU WERE CARING FOR YOUR BROTHER DURING HIS ILLNESS.AND HOW BLESSED HE WAS TO HAVE YOU .HE TRULY LOVED YOU LADY WE'D HAVE LONG TALKS ABOUT EVERY AND EVERYTHING,WE LAUGHED AND CRIED ON OUR LAST MEETING.HE WAS A VERY FOCUSED MAN WHO LOVED LIFE EVEN AFTER HE CONFIDED IN ME WHAT HE CALLED THE HARDEST LOSS OF HIS LIFE,EXCLUDING YOUR PARENTS.HE ALLOWED ME TO CRY ON HIS SHOULDER,AS HE EXTENDED THOSE LONG ARMS OUT TO SAY AS LONG AS WE KNOW THE LORD WERE GONNA BE ALRIGHT.WE LAUGHED AT ALL THE CRAZY TIMES WE ENCOUNTERED WORKING AT THE GROUP HOMES.HE WOULD USE EVERY METHOD,DEVICE HE COULD GET HIS HANDS ON WHEN IT CAME
TO HIS CASELOAD OF YOUNG TROUBLED TEENS AND EVERYBODY ELSE'S CASELOAD AS WELL.HE'D SEND THEM ENCOURAGING MESSAGES OVER THE RADIO AND DEDICATE A SONG TO THEM FOR THEM IT WAS BIG !! TO HAVE THE TEDDBEAR GIVE YOU A SHOUT-OUT.HE HAD THAT GIFT,AND HE USED IT WITH CONVICTION!!HE HAD SOME TROUBLED SHOOTING SKILLS THAT ONLY A MAN W/A MISSION KNEW HOW TO USE.HE ALSO REPRESENTED HIS FATHER GOD WITHOUT A DOUBT.AND HE DID HIS WORK,FULLFILLED HIS JOURNEY HERE ON THISEARTH.SO AS DIFFICULT AS THIS TIME IS FOR YOU THE FAMILY,HE HAS NO MORE PAIN,NO MORE SORROW...HE WILL TRULY BE MISSED...BUT HIS WORK IS NOW OUR WORK.I HOPE THOSE WHO TRULY UNDERSTOOD HIS DEVOTION TO OUR YOUTH,TAKE A STAND AND EXTEND YOUR HAND AND YOUR HEART AN SOUL TO CONTINUE HIS LIFE'S WORK....I'LL CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR YOU AS A FAMILY FOR COMFORT AND HEALING AS TIME BEGINS TO BRING THE JOY THAT YOU KNOW HE'S RESTING IN UTTER PEACE IN THE UPPER ROOM...

There are many memories that those of us Riverside natives remember fondly. There's Jeannie at the park, there's Edward Jenkins at Poly/church/weddings and funerals, there's Dale from Poly and every Black History parade, and then there is the voice that enlightened all of our moods every Sunday... the voice of Teddy Bear. As I long for days gone by, I mourn the many losses we have endured with the passing of time. As I found out, Teddy Bear new my sister Lisa Williams (King) very well. When we lost her, his thoughts and prayers helped sustain our family. As I discovered when she passed, life is most unpredictable and almost always surprising. We should all take the message Teddy Bear emphasized with almost every public moment: live each day to the fullest and unto the Lord. We never know where we will find ourselves as we are not promised tomorrow. God bless the family and friends during this very sad time. Hopefully we can all take this opportunity to reach out to those loved ones we have lost touch with and let them know we care. We must go about our Father's business by spreading His word and the spirit of His love... afterall, this is what our dearly departed friend would have wanted from us all. Listening to KUCR on Sundays is one of my favorite memories and was such a major part of Riverside back in the day. Curtis was the force behind the station. I remember many days kicking it with him in the studio as well as our home. He was part of our family. I can still hear him laughing. My prayers are with the Wofford family & I will always remember the Teddy Bear.
