Daniel P. Howard

1931 - 2015

DANIEL P. HOWARD Daniel P. Howard of Riverside, Calif. passed away June 20 2015, at the Riverside Community Regional Medical Center. He was 84. Dan was born May 19, 1931 in Auburn, MS, the forth and youngest child of Janis Albert Howard and Melisie Jane Howard. He grew up in Denham Springs, LA. After graduating from Denham High School in May 1950, Dan enlisted in the United States Marine Corp on June 6, 1950. He deployed in June 1953 as a "Duty Replacement, beyond the Seas". We know Dan's military travels took him to Rome, Italy, Oran, Algiers, and Combat service in Korea. Among his service awards were the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He was proudly and honorably discharged on June 5, 1954, with the rank of Sgt. After returning to the states in 1954, Dan relocated to Riverside, Calif, he worked as a PBX Repair Technician for the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company, and later with AT&T, where he retired in 1989, as a Service Technician Manager- Telecommunications. During his tenure he worked for and was awarded many training and accomplishment awards and certificates. In September 1990 Dan married Colleen P. Stauffer of Highland, Calif. They married and honeymooned in Honolulu, Hawaii, and returned to reside in his home in Riverside, where Mrs. Howard still lives. Dan was a volunteer and rode along with the Riverside City Police Dept. He enjoyed traveling, cruises, gardening, took long walks daily and maintained two apartments for rentals. Dan was preceded in death by his mother, father, two sisters, a brother and his only child, daughter Ruby Bryan. He is survived by his wife Colleen P Howard; step children, Patricia Ostler and Robert Stauffer of Utah, Shevawn Jones of Kansas, and granddaughters Melissa Lowell and Krysta Grizzard of Oregon.
