David Cortez Obituary

DAVID CORTEZ On Sunday, October 28, 2012 David joined dad in heaven. Born in Michoacán, Mexico, on September 24, 1954, he was the oldest child of Pedro and Eloiza Cortez. When he was 8, the family moved to the state of México, just outside of México City. There they lived until 1974, when the family moved once again. This time to Corona, which became the family's permanent home. David was a special person, and anyone who met him could see that. His charm for making new friends was unmatched and his joy when seeing old ones was undeniable. He was always smiling and in a good mood, he greeted everyone with excitement. David enjoyed interacting with people and some of his favorite days were while working at Joy Street Market in his younger years. More recently he would help out at Eduardo's, the family restaurant, always taking pride in the work he did. After finishing his duties, you could see him on his way to the record store to buy a new CD or simply visiting his friends at the local gas station. A child at heart, he could find joy in the simplest things, many that most of us take for granted. David never encountered a batch of ice cream he couldn't handle or a hamburger he wouldn't attack. He loved telling jokes, even if he forgot the punch line; all he wanted was to make people laugh. He loved to dance and pretty much anything that had to do with music and social gatherings. David was like a bird, unable to be held down, his spirit needed to be free and even on his last day here on earth, he lived accordingly. He touched many of our lives and made them better, teaching us many lessons in his own special way. Even now, we have so much to learn from him. He will be greatly missed by many people, especially by his family, his mom Eloiza, his brothers, Salvador and Eduardo, his sisters, Marta, Adela Leon, Maria Melgoza, brother-in-law Tony Melgoza, nieces Lisette Melgoza and Diana Leon, nephews, Marco and Sebastian Melgoza, Eddie and Manuel Leon, niece-in-law Heather Leon and grand nieces Larissa, Olivia and Sophia. They have lost the most valuable treasure, but are certain he is in heaven with his dad and God, sharing jokes, eating Chiles Rellenos and telling them about all the wonderful friends that made his life so special and has now left behind here on Earth. Services will be open to family and friends. A visitation and rosary will be held at Thomas Miller Mortuary on Sunday, November, 4th from 5-8pm, mass will be held at 11:30am on Monday, November 5th at St. Edward's Catholic Church followed by a burial at Sunny Slope Cemetery.

So sorry for the loss of your brother David. He was a good friend to me and my family. I have many fond memories of him visiting us when my parents lived on E. Eighth St. in Corona. My dad Ruben and my mom Choco always welcomed him to our home at anytime. He would watch T.V and drink a beer with my dad, and stayed to BBQ, eat and laugh with all of us. He was a blessing to have around, always put a smile on our faces as we would all joke around and eat. I am thankful to have known him, and until we meet with him again in heaven, I will always cherish the memories of this special man. I pray that God comforts and gives strength to the family in this time of need, Amen.

David, Thank you for all the dinners. Such great times. We laughed and joked. You were always making sure that we celebrated both our birthdays, especially mine. You always asked about my mom and insisted we visited her at the convalescent home. You always inquired about all my family memebers and their well being. We had dinner 10 days ago and you said to me " 'pa la otra cena sera para tu cumpleanos, its in JUNE 2013! LOL so typical of you to plan things so way in advance... and always reminding me of the impending date. I will miss your phone calls confirming if we are still on? I am forever blessed to have been able to spend some "quality time" just you and I like true Buddies, like you used to say to me: " Mi Hermana de por vida" We got to go to 2 different Circus here in Corona. I will never forget the look in your face as you watched all the different acts. Thank you for your kindness and for making me feel that I was someone special. Love always, Barbie
