Marilyn Jacobsmeyer Obituary

MARILYN ELIZABETH (BALOGH) JACOBSMEYER
Marilyn was born January 10, 1950 and died April 18, 2017. During the time in between, she had a profound impact on a great many lives around her. She was born in Riverside, the third of four children. She remained in Riverside until shortly after marrying Bruce Jacobsmeyer in 1970. They moved to Logan, Utah, where she helped Bruce finish his degree. They then moved to Carlsbad, CA, and began a family together with the birth of their first son Curtis in 1976 and second son Jeff in 1979. In 1983 the family would make the move back to Riverside, where Marilyn went back to school to finish her degree and obtain her teaching credential. She taught kindergarten and first grade at Fremont and Beatty Elementary Schools in RUSD for almost 30 years. With her compassion and dedication, she no doubt touched the lives of hundreds of children over the years. When her own children were grown, she continued her education and earned her Master's degree.
Marilyn loved to travel. Along with her mother and sisters, she had the privilege of touring through England, Italy, France and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico on many art and garden tours. During most summers, her favorite getaway was Williams Lake in Salmon, Idaho, where she loved to walk, kayak, read, and relax.
No matter where she was, one of her greatest joys was being 'Meemaw' to her grandkids. She took great pride in her four grandkids, deeply involving herself in their lives, attending as many baseball and soccer games, orchestra and school performances as possible, until she was no longer physically able to do so. It was during those times that the grandkids would come to her. She loved to have them around and with each visit her spirits were lifted.
In August of 2015, she was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme Brain Cancer. Even while undergoing radiation and chemotherapy treatments, she did not complain. She remained strong for her family. Her greatest frustration came as she was losing the ability to communicate with and be with the ones she loved.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Bruce in 2006. She is survived by son Curtis, his wife Patty, and their children Isaiah, Genesis, and Rebekah; son Jeff and his son Joseph; father Andy Balogh (Eileen); mother Gloria Singletary; sisters Andrea Stamm and Cheryl Nichols (Robert) and brother Andy Balogh (Debi); as well as several nieces and nephews.
We know she is now with her Savior. Her battle is finished, the last few months being the most difficult. Therefore, the family is requesting that, in lieu of flowers, a contribution be made to the National Brain Tumor Society. Go to defeatgbm.org for more information.
Services will be held at Pathway Christian Church, 6755 Victoria Avenue, Riverside on May 4, 2017 at 12:30 pm.

I met Marilyn one day at church during VBS. You didn't have to know Marilyn well or for a long time to feel this ladies warmth and love. She had a spark of light, kindness, and a smile that made you feel you had been friends for ever.. you will be thought of frequently, talked about often, missed like crazy and forever loved!

I was on The Fremont staff along with Marilyn the first eight years of my teaching career beginning 1986. A zing zaps my heart when I see her picture now. She always had a twinkle in her eye and I can hear the laugh in her voice now. I am sad.
Sending Love in Light,
kz

You will be missed and remembered forever.

I was privileged to work with Marilyn most, if not all, of her teaching career, first at Fremont and then at Beatty. She was a fabulous teacher and you could see her love for her students in everything she did. She touched hundreds of lives. She will be missed.

Thank you, Mrs. Jacobsmeyer for teaching me the importance of creativity. I'm so thankful you were my teacher. ~ Savannah K.
