Nancy Lynde Obituary

LYNDE, NANCY R. Died January 24, 2006 from pancreatic cancer. A resident of Corona, CA. for over 45 years, Nancy was a well-known and loved elementary school teacher. Born in 1936 in Glendale, Arizona, Nancy came to Corona to live and teach after graduating from Arizona State University and teaching for a short time in the state of Arizona. Once in Corona she originally taught at Norco Elementary and then left for a few years to teach in Europe. Upon her return from Europe, in the mid 1960's, she taught at Lincoln Elementary and Vicentia Elementary before retiring in 1993. Education and service to others was Nancy's passion. She was well known throughout the community as an outstanding teacher that would go to great lengths to help her students succeed. For Nancy the school day did not end at 3:30pm, nor did the school year end in June. Always looking for new learning experiences for her students, for nearly 15 years Nancy took large groups of fourth through eighth grade students on summer tours of Washington DC, Williamsburg, New York, and Philadelphia to learn about our nation's heritage. During her career she was a member of the American Association of University Women and since her retirement she has stayed involved in educational issues by leading the Corona/Norco branch of the California Retired Teachers Association. Through the California Retired Teachers Association she has worked tirelessly supporting local retired teachers and raising scholarship money for students wishing to pursue a career in education. Nancy is survived by her husband, James Lynde, and her son, Robert Lynde and his wife, Cristy, along with her grandchildren, Malia and Gavin. Other family members include two step-sons whom she dearly loved, James M. Lynde and Norman P. Lynde, and step-grandchildren, Tory and Duncan. Nancy is also survived by her brother, Harold Rucker of Arizona. A memorial service will be held at the Corona High School Performing Arts Center on Sunday, January 29, 2006 at 4:00PM. Corona High School is located at 1150 W. Tenth St., Corona, CA. 92882. Family members have asked that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the CRTA Division 80 Scholarship Fund, 2875 Gilbert Ave., Corona, CA., 92881 OR to the Corona United Methodist Church, New Building Fund, 114 E. Tenth St., Corona, CA. 92879. Funeral Services being handled by: THOMAS MILLER MORTUARY 951-737-3244
