Mr. Downey was my teacher in 6th grade at Palm Middle. He was one of the best teachers I ever had, and loved it so much when he would bring in his guitar and play music. I fondly think about him whenever I hear the song Rockin' Robin. He will be fondly remembered by me and my family.

Tim was my 5th grade teacher at Northridge Elementary. He taught me about hard work, my love for music, and how to be a good person. He inspired me to become a teacher myself and was my mentor during my time student teaching. My condolences to his family and I hope he's resting in peace.

I am truly heartbroken at the news of Mr. Downey’s passing. My sister and I both were taught by him at North Ridge many years ago. His passion for music and teaching made all the difference in our education and really stuck with us after leaving his classroom. 8 days a week holds a special place in my heart because of those classroom sing alongs. I offer my most sincere condolences to the family. God Bless.

We are so sorry to hear about Mr. Downey's passing. He was both of our sons 5th grade teacher and our relationship extended way past the classroom. Tim became a friend during our time at Northridge and we kept in contact for years to come. He was so passionate about his students and always had such a positive attitude and made a lasting impression on our sons. It was teachers like him who inspired one of our sons to become a teacher himself. Tim attended many milestone events in our lives and we had the privilege of hearing him sing on numerous occasions. Our condolences to the whole family. We will always keep our fond memories of him close to our hearts.

My condolences to the family...Tim was a great friend to me since high school. Tim graduated with my sister Charlene, and I became friends with Tim through their friendship. I remember going to the Turkey House in Rowland Heights shortly after High School to watch Tim perform. I enjoyed his music and songs. Later in life we got together often to play golf with Fred Goldman, Steve Autry, and Brad Lenning. Tim was a kind and gentle soul who will be greatly missed.

So sad to hear of Tim's passing. My youngest son and Tim's children attended elementary school together. Tim was always one of the parents involved with the sports teams. He demonstrated remarkable kindness -and patience. He was a truly nice guy!

I had the privilege of working in Mr Downey's class at North Ridge as a parent volunteer. He was a special teacher and a very nice man. I enjoyed many conversations with him in the classroom and the parking lots of our neighborhood stores, where we often ran into one another, about our children and how proud we were of them. Prayers to the family. Thank you for sharing him and his special talents with us.

Every time I here the song Signs I think of him! He played that song for me when we went to Califorina when I was nine and still think of him when I hear it! Sure wish I would have saw him again!

There have been a handful of people who seem to live life as it should be lived, do the right thing when no one is watching and genuinely make this world better because they were here. Tim Downey is one of the rare individuals who did that. He was kind, talented and a really nice guy. His life and accomplishments are a wonderful example to us all of how to make a difference and positively touch the hearts of those we encounter on this journey. Love , peace and light to Jill, Austen, Kelsey and family and friends

Tim was a great guy. One of the best. Talented yet unassuming. Family man. Teacher. T-Ball Coach Tim.
He made our wedding party special. Another fond memory is his harmonizing Eagles songs with musician friends in our back yard.
I can see Tim now ...

Cool wind in his hair
Warm smell of sage brush
rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, ... a shimmering light ..."

It's hard to explain the gut punch I felt when I heard of Tim's passing. This is way too soon. I can only think that the reason it hurts so much is because of the man he was, the legacy he left, and the impact he made— one that will span so many generations. My thoughts and prayers go to his family, but also to those who remember what a compassionate, hardworking, decent human being Tim was. Though we hadn't been in contact since his retirement, I will never forget him coming to my son's games, just to watch and hang out. To have known Tim is to know a man who was gifted, not just musically, which he was, but in teaching, in supporting others, and in being a genuinely good man. One can only hope they can touch as many lives, for good, as Tim has. So many students, parents, fellow teachers, and administrators are better for having known him. God Bless my friend. I know you are singing with the angels in heaven.

I am so saddened to hear this. I will never forget the first time I heard him sing. I had just started working at North Ridge and our class was behind the stage. One day, I heard this beautiful voice coming from the stage. I went out there to see who it was. It was Tim. He had the heart of an angel, so kind, caring for others, great teacher, funny, talented beyond words as a musician/singer. Thank you, Tim for the wonderful memories, music and laughs. God speed, dear friend. Im sending prayers to you, Jill, and the kids. My heart is very sad right now.

Tim was the nicest and most considerate man that I have ever know. I had the privilege of working with him at North Ridge Magnet School. What a great human being and wonderful educator. I especially remember the duets we sang for the students. The song White Christmas will always evoke his memory. My sincerest condolences go to JJill and his family.
