Timothy Downey

1955 - 2021

Age 66, passed away on May 30, 2021, after battling cancer. He is survived by his wife, Jill; children Austen and Kelsey and their spouses Melissa and Vic; grandson Nathaniel; siblings Mike, Peggy, Pat, and Terri, and their spouses Cathy, Bob, Terry, and Mel. Tim was born to Francis and Margaret Downey in Victorville, CA on May 28, 1955, and later moved to Rowland Heights, where he graduated from Rowland Heights High School in 1973. Tim then went on to study at Cal Poly Pomona, where he met his wife Jill in 1978, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Behavioral Science in 1980. In 1983, Tim and Jill were married in Covina. The following year, Tim began his teaching career at Ontario Montclair. Tim and Jill celebrated their first child, Austen, in 1987 and their second child, Kelsey, in 1989. In 1988 Tim earned his master's degree in Educational Administration from Azusa Pacific University. His career then moved him to the Moreno Valley School District, where he taught for 26 years and was awarded District Teacher of the Year in 2009. He was simultaneously performing music professionally and teaching college courses through UCR (2003-2020) and National University (2006-2013). UCR awarded him the Instructor Excellence Award in 2012. During his time as an educator, he impacted many lives with his well-rounded and thoughtful approach to teaching. In the later portion of Tim's career, he worked as an administrator in Tustin and as the Technology Coordinator for the Riverside County Office of Education, until retiring in 2017. Tim most enjoyed time with his family and friends, listening to and performing music, baseball, golf, travel, and technology. He was an outstanding husband, father, and overall person, who provided fulfillment to the lives of those fortunate enough to have known him. His vast knowledge, talents, humor, and selfless nature helped make lives and the world better. There will be an invitation only, private funeral held to honor his memory.
