Anthony Coletta Obituary

Coletta, Dr. Anthony, - Broomall, It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Dr. Anthony Coletta on May 11, 2024, in Longport, NJ.

Tony (dad/doc/pop-pop) was born on August 13th, 1953 in Philadelphia. He was a beloved husband to Karen and a loving father to Maria (spouse Damien), Anthony (spouse Nastassja), and Nicholas (spouse Daniela). He was an ever-loving brother to Dee, Dom, Phyllis, Joe, and Ann Marie. Above all, his greatest joy was in being the world's greatest Poppop to Jack, Anthony, Dylan, and Harry. He was also the beloved human sidekick to his best buddies Gus and Lily.

Tony was a passionate, pioneering surgeon at Bryn Mawr Hospital for 25 years. He was loved by his patients and colleagues. He was also a successful Healthcare leader and entrepreneur, working at Holy Redeemer Health System, Tandigm Health, and Independence Blue Cross. While he was widely known for his career accomplishments, the work most important to him was his philanthropy. Over the course of many years, he brought surgical teams to Haiti to provide medical services to those most in need. To list his professional achievements would require a book, but even while accomplishing astonishing professional ventures, Tony remained generous, loyal, kind, and funny. Even in retirement, he continued to serve on boards and provide guidance to young professionals. His mentorship and leadership in healthcare is irreplaceable.

Tony will be remembered for his beautiful soul, his moral courage, and his infectious laugh. His generous spirit had no limit, reaching beyond just family and friends and touching people he barely knew. He made people feel seen and he didn't abandon anybody in need.

If asked, his grandchildren would say that he is remembered as being joyful and silly, a great fisherman, and very intellectually curious. He taught them so much. Their "Pop-pop" meant the world to them. They will miss him deeply, but his pride in them will carry them forward for the rest of their lives.

Tony will be missed deeply, beyond words, by all who knew and loved him. But no one will miss him more than family. He leaves behind countless wonderful memories of a life truly lived to the very fullest.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation, Friday, May 17, 2024, 9 to 11 a.m. at St. John Neumann Church, 380 Highland Lane, Bryn Mawr, PA, 19010, followed by his Funeral Mass, 11 a.m. Interment private.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Blue Sky Surgical. Donations can be made on the Blue Sky website https://blueskysurgical.org/, or a check can be sent to Blue Sky Surgical, Inc. c/o Wisler Pearlstine, LLP, Blue Bell Executive Campus, 460 Norristown Rd. Suite 110, Blue Bell, PA, 19422.

Dear Karen, Maria, Anthony, Nick and all my Coletta cousins,
On Tony's birthday August 13, I share this passage from Anne Lamott's book entitled :
Help, Thanks, Wow (The Three Essential Prayers.)
"There are no words for the broken hearts of people losing people, so I ask God to respond to them with graciousness and encouragement enough for the day."
May God's light and peace fill your hearts and grant you comfort.
Love,
Marguerite and Bernie

Tony was one of the absolute gems in medicine and will be missed dearly. I feel absolutely priviledged to not only have known him, but having had the pleasure of working with him at the bedside as a critical care nurse and also in the outside world of Care Management at Tandigm Health. Prayers to his family, colleagues, friends and patients. May he RIP

Such a great surgeon and took such good care of my mother through her surgery and hospitalizations. She spoke so highly of Dr. Coletta and he was the only surgeon she ever truly trusted and valued. He was wonderful to her. What a tremendous loss for his family and the community. My deepest sympathy to those whose lives he touched.

So sad to hear Tony has left this world. What a great person. I worked with Tony when he was a surgical resident/fellow at Jefferson in 1986. He and John Rodomski were at the forefront of transplant surgery. What a 1-2 combination. Tony was a brilliantly skilled, tireless surgeon with a great sense of humor. He was one of the few surgeons who had command of internal medicine and could manage a patient from A to Z. Additionally, he was a pleasure to work with. Nurses, house staff, students liked working with him. Rest in peace, Tony. You will be remembered by many of us Jefferson people.
