Anthony De Franco Obituary



De FRANCO, ANTHONY, "TONY" 77 - of Galloway, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 18, 2006. Tony was born in Garfield, and lived as a young teenager on the family farm in Flemington. As an adult, he moved to Paterson, where he was a clothing manufacturer and founder of the Sport Temple Clothing business. In 1966, he moved to Galloway, where he owned Tammy Brook Clothing Company, and for 16 years, owned and operated the Split Rail Tavern in Egg Harbor Township (home of black angus roast beef sandwiches and "where you were a stranger but once"). After his retirement, he built his own vending trucks and operated Tony's Hot Dogs. Tony served his country honorably in the US Army. He had a strong work ethic and loved his family dearly. In his free time, he enjoyed riding his tractor, woodworking, bowling, and listening to Frank Sinatra. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Italian American Club, the Galloway American Legion, and Chamber of Commerce. He was predeceased by his daughter, Toni De Franco, in 2004 and is survived by his wife, Emily De Franco of Galloway; his daughters, Dr. Theresa De Franco and her husband, Dr. Peter Mora of Palermo, and Tammy De Franco and her significant other, Jaime Masso Jr., of Galloway; his grandson, George Taylor, Jr. of Galloway; his sister, Mary of Texas; and his extended family, Aunt Jean and her sons, Pat and Tim Griffin and their families. A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at Wimberg Funeral Home, 211 E Great Creek Road, Galloway (609)641-0001. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 PM at Church of the Assumption, White Horse Pike, Pomona. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum, Mays Landing.
