Arnold Liepe Obituary

Arnold H. Liepe

May 30, 1932 - August 10, 2025

Arnold H. Liepe, 93, of Cologne, N.J., passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, at his home on the family farm, surrounded by loved ones and his loyal dog, Crackett.

A lifelong resident of Cologne, Arnold graduated from Egg Harbor City High School in 1950 and soon after enlisted in the U.S. Navy. From 1952 to 1956, he proudly served aboard the USS Yorktown. Following his honorable discharge, Arnold dedicated 32 years to the New Jersey State Forest Fire Service as the C7 Section Warden. He also served with distinction in the Cologne Volunteer Fire Department, where he was honored to be named its first Chief.

While Arnold held many respected titles throughout his life, the ones he cherished most were "Dad," "Poppop," and "Farmer." He devoted his life to working on and managing his family's farm alongside his father, Herman, and his brothers, Buddy and Herman G. Liepe. Established in 1863, Liepe Brothers Farm was a legacy Arnold took great pride in preserving and continuing.

Even when not actively farming, Arnold found joy in the land he loved. He spent many cherished days at his home in Maine hunting with his best friend, Redbone, or on the family property with the Cologne #1 Gunning Club, which included his sons, grandchildren, and close friends. Many fond memories were made in his basement bar, a favorite gathering place for family and friends.

Arnold is survived by his children, Glenn Liepe (Shelly), devoted daughter Patsy Rattigan (John), Matt Liepe (Lisa), and Jeff Liepe (Patty); as well as his beloved grandchildren, Steven, David, Josh, Allison, Kacie, Amanda, Samantha, Jessica, Cody, and Nikki; and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Herman and Buddy; and his sister, Bertha.

Arnold was a devoted father, a loving grandfather and great-grandfather, and a loyal friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In accordance with his wishes, services will be private. Donations in Arnold's memory may be made to the Cologne Volunteer Fire Department.

To Me Liepe´s family~~I enjoyed my talks over the years with your Dad when stopping in to purchase veggies, fruits. My folks always stopped in as well whenever they were visiting. My folks were same age/generation as your Dad & their conversations were a pleasure. Wishing you all comfort in loving & laughing memories.
