Reed, Dr. Carole-Rae, PhD, RN, APN-C, - 73, of Absecon, passed away at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia on May 23 after a lengthy illness. Born July 19, 1950 in Atlantic City, she lived in Margate, Philadelphia, Ventnor, and Absecon. Carole started over 40 years of clinical experience as a registered nurse at the Children's Seashore House in Atlantic City before graduating from the University of Pennsylvania with a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy, both in Nursing. She engaged in postdoctoral studies in Sleep and Chronobiology and as an Advanced Practice Nurse provided comprehensive mental health care in a variety of positions and chaired an interdisciplinary suicide prevention task force. Carole held positions as project manager and research coordinator at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, Graduate Hospital, and Cooper University Hospital as well as having been a tenured Associate Professor at the Richard Stockton University of New Jersey in the Bachelor of Science in Health Science (BSHS) program. She has written numerous peer-reviewed publications and international presentations, mostly in Interprofessional Education. She was a parishioner of Saint Mark & All Saints Episcopal Church and member of the Alpha Eta Society (Allied Health) and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Carole is survived by son Keith Fagan and his wife Kara; granddaughter Tessa; sister Janine; close cousins, Charles Lockwood (dec.) Caron Miklinovitch, Janet Widder, Jill Williams, Lisa Lutwiche, Laura Aguiar, Lynn Stokking, Kris, Stokking, and Carl Stokking, their numerous children, and her beloved cats Ragnar and Lagertha. Memorial contributions may be given to the Edwin B. Forsythe Wildlife Refuge which she loved and volunteered at for many years.
A viewing will be held on Friday, May 31, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, 1707 New Rd., Linwood. A second viewing will be held Saturday, June 1st, from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. Mass at Church of St. Mark and All Saints, 429 S Pitney Rd, Galloway.
