Cornelius Johnson Obituary



JOHNSON, CORNELIUS, 87 - of Atlantic City, departed this life after a lingering illness and went home to be with The Lord, Tuesday, October 3, 2006, in the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division. Born in Alachua County, FL, he attended Stuart Training School and Dillard High School. After completing school, he enlisted into the United States Army where he served in WWII. He served in Italy, and North Africa until his honorable discharge. He received the Army Commendation Medal, FAME Campaign Medal, and WWII Victory Medal. He was fondly known as "Lump". Mr. Johnson was the owner and operator of Johnson Cleaner on Merrick Boulevard, Jamaica Queens, Long Island, NY. He was employed by Cheribino Petty and Company in Atlantic City for 20 years as a pressor. He also worked as a pressor and valet for Bally Park Place for ten years, earning numerous awards including Employee of the Month. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Apostolic Cathedral for the last ten years of his life. "Lump" was happy and content. He enjoyed having his family around him. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted companion, Leanise Marcus, Atlantic City; his daughter, Jennifer Johnson-Mixon, Atlantic City; his sister, Blanche Smith of Hobesound, FL. He was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Moment of Hobesound; brother, Vernonton Johnson of Baltimore; a cherished granddaughter, Tiffani Mixon and son, Samad Greene of Atlantic City; grandson, Erick Waller Jr. of Atlantic City; a special daughter and son in law, Myron Jr. and Cheryl Jenkins and their children, Myron Jr. and Amber who were very close to him, of Egg Harbor Township; faithful nephews, Joe, Calvin and Bill Moment of Hobesound and Bill Moment; favorite nieces, Vivian Moment Grant, Coretha Moment Hill of AL, Beverly Moment Bradley of Wabasso, FL, Doris Moment Bell of Tampa, FL, June Moment Birdens of Hobesound; and a host of other nieces, nephews, and many friends past and present. Funeral services will be held at Noon, Monday, October 9, 2006, at Shiloh Temple Apostolic Cathedral, 505 Madison Avenue, Atlantic City, where friends may call from 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Hobesound Cemetery, Hobesound, FL. Arrangements have been entrusted to Greenidge Funeral Home.
